Circular motion concept

In Russia, sections of roads with roundabouts are common. The traffic rules explain that the concept of a roundabout implies an intersection at which the direction of movement of vehicles in a circle is provided in a counterclockwise direction.

This area may be adjacent to three to five roads. Regulation of such areas is carried out only with the help of signs at the entrance, which indicate traffic priorities, and road markings.

The driver must indicate any intention: entering, exiting or changing lanes using turn signals.

Driving through roundabouts

/ / For many, especially novice drivers, driving around a roundabout causes some difficulties. What is this connected with? Is a roundabout as scary and dangerous as it might seem at first glance?

It is these questions that will be answered in the article. So, what conclusion should be drawn? The turn signals are always turned on when changing lanes on the roundabout, as well as when leaving the roundabout.

Should you drive strictly according to the rules and always turn on your right turn signal when entering a roundabout?

The question is controversial. Sometimes it is this decision that can provoke an accident. When driving through any intersection, and therefore a roundabout, the driver must reduce speed. The situation on the road must be assessed.

It is not correct to assume that the ring is the main road. Therefore, you should pay attention to the signs and remember about “interference on the right.” On the roundabout, drivers can get confused Which turns should be taken.

Find Login Someone else's computer » » roundabout A roundabout is essentially a one-way road twisted into a ring, with several other roads adjacent to it. This is how a roundabout is formed. Everyone and in all lanes move parallel to each other in the same direction.

This intersection has a number of its own characteristics.

For example, when entering and leaving this intersection, the driver always turns right, so traffic flows counterclockwise. At the same time, you can enter from any lane (and not just from the far right), and leave only from the outer “ring” (although installed signs or markings may allow from other lanes as well).

We bring to your attention a section that contains questions about roundabouts in traffic tickets 2021 with explanations.

The questions were amended on November 8, 2021 13-12-2017, 08:48

First of all, pay attention to the following fact. You can approach the roundabout in any lane. However, this does not mean that on the circle itself you can immediately occupy any lane. Let's consider paragraph 8.6 of the traffic rules:

This article will focus on driving through equivalent roundabouts. You will learn who has priority when driving through the “ring”, as well as how to act directly at the intersection, which lane and in what case it is better to take.

In accordance with the rules for driving roundabouts, you need to leave the intersection from the right lane. In this case, it is worth rebuilding at the time of the congress - this is the most correct decision. If the driver controls the situation, the risks of an accident are minimal. When driving in a circle, it is not prohibited to overtake other cars. Stopping a car is allowed at a distance of no less than 5 meters from the junction of the ring and the roads that adjoin it.

If a driver does not give right of way at a roundabout, he will also be charged a fine. This is possible when a motorist entering the circle does not give way to cars that are already driving around the circle. According to Art. 12.13 of the Administrative Code, these actions are fraught with a fine of 1000 rubles.

These new rules for driving around the ring were supported by the governments of large cities, in particular the capital. The Moscow Center for Traffic Organization noted that in the metropolis, out of 54 roundabout intersections, the majority (over 40) before the introduction of the regulation had a scheme in which the advantage of traffic follows drivers already moving in a circle.

The absence of a “Give Way” instruction does not change the order of passage at the intersection. Additional regulation is carried out through a traffic light. It is usually installed at intersections with multiple lanes. There is no traffic light on a single-road roundabout.

Signs and road markings for roundabouts

The imperfection of traffic rules in Russia makes it difficult for drivers to understand traffic around the ring. The introduction of new rules in 2021 has not yet borne fruit, because many motorists are not aware of the changes and continue to drive as they are accustomed to.

In order not to break the rules, first of all you need to follow the signs before entering the roundabout. More recently, the main sign warning about the circular section was sign 4.3 - a blue circle with three white arrows depicting the direction against the clock.

Thus, when entering the circle, cars were an obstacle on the right and must continue moving, and vehicles located on the circle must yield to them. This rule may still apply today.

The combination of sign 4.3 together with additional priority signs 2.4 - Give way or 2.5 - Driving without stopping is prohibited, began to be used only in 2010. Thus, the road on the ring has become the main road, and all entering vehicles must give way to vehicles moving along it.

Also, before entering the site, a main road sign may be installed indicating a dedicated lane. If the automobile ring is located around a ring with tram tracks, then the tram, after entering its borders, will have priority and will need to be allowed through at the exit.

Rules for driving roundabouts in 2021

There are many situations on the roads when the driver must orient himself correctly, turn on the turn signal, in order to avoid major or minor accidents. These moments include the situation at a roundabout intersection.

Every driver needs to know exactly which turn signal to use, which turn signal to turn on immediately when entering the roundabout, and how to competently overcome these sections of roads.

A roundabout is defined as an area of the highway where driving is done counterclockwise.

It is important to understand that those who move in a circle have advantages.

Many readers, who drive around the circle every day, are now thinking, and many, the majority, have already answered incorrectly.

And I bet that among this majority there are people with 20 and 30 years of driving experience. Instructors and teachers of driving schools, traffic police officers and, perhaps, a few other motoring lawyers, as well as rare competent drivers, may not read this article, because, as you already understand, it is not addressed to you, but to the remaining 95% of motorists.

These same 95% either do not know the traffic rules regarding the passage of roundabouts, or interpret them incorrectly. But this is not surprising! There is neither a separate chapter nor a separate paragraph in the traffic rules that explains to drivers the correct movement in a circle. With the exception of paragraph 13.9, but it talks about entering the roundabout when it is the main road and when it is not the main road.

If a motorist enters the ring zone, he should not turn on his turn signals - he should notify other road users of the maneuver only when changing lanes.

If there are unregulated pedestrian crossings at an intersection, it is imperative to give way to people who use them.

Unlike regular intersections, the driver has the right to enter the roundabout from any lane. But at the same time, he is obliged to occupy a lane in the circle corresponding to the one in which he was before entering:

  • if from the far right lane, then after entering you must be on the far right;
  • if from the far left, then you should go to the far left.

From which lane should you enter the roundabout?

A section of a road with a roundabout is an exception to the usual rules about changing direction.

If at a regular intersection a driver intending to change direction must take the far right lane, then at a roundabout he can continue driving from his lane.

The movement continues as follows:

  1. If the number of lanes is equal on both segments, then the exit from the roundabout will be made from an equivalent lane. If the driver needs to turn right, he must enter this area in the right lane, drive straight in the middle lane, and turn left in the left lane.
  2. If the number of lanes on both sections of the road is different, then changing lanes from one lane to another can be done both in advance and after entering the intersection.

In which direction is the truck driver allowed to continue driving?

1.Only in circles.
2.Only to the right.
3.In any direction listed.

Sign 4.3 “Roundabout” informs that a roundabout is organized at this intersection.

  • When entering such intersections, it is not necessary to take the extreme right position on the roadway of traffic rules 8.5.
  • As for leaving the intersection, the rule common to all intersections applies here - to turn right you must take the extreme right position of Traffic Regulations 8.6.

Therefore, the truck can only move in a circle and to the right.

Driving straight around the roundabout

Continuing to drive straight is preferable in the middle lane for three-lane roads or in the left lane if there are two. Next, you need to change lanes when leaving to the far right lane for the exit.

Driving in a straight direction can be started and continued in the rightmost lane - this is not a violation, but it can make it difficult for other participants to change lanes and exit.

Do not forget that traffic can be regulated by signs or markings that indicate the priority direction.

Which vehicle driver is violating the Rules?

1.Passenger car only.
2.Both vehicles.
3.Nobody is breaking.

The “Roundabout” sign informs that there is a roundabout at this intersection.

  • When entering such intersections, it is not necessary to take the extreme right position on the roadway.
  • As for leaving the intersection, the rule common to all intersections applies here - to turn right, you must take the extreme right position and turn into the extreme right lane.

Only the truck driver follows this rule. The correct answer is: Passenger car only.

How to make turns on the ring correctly?

Entering a section of road with a circular direction misleads many drivers. Even experienced drivers may not know what turn signals to turn on correctly when entering.

It is correct to use the right turn signal. After all, this is the same intersection and driving against the direction of traffic on the left turn signal will be a gross violation of the rules.

When driving around the roundabout, a driver who does not plan to change lanes must turn it off.

Turning right from this intersection will always be an exit from the site. Changing lanes must be done with the right turn signal on.

Turning left while on a ring section of the road must be done with caution. When driving along the roundabout, you must not turn on the left turn signal, but still enter the desired direction of the road from the right outer lane with the right turn signal on.

Rules of conduct for pedestrians in roundabouts

Most often, ring sections of the road are not regulated by traffic lights, and there are one or more pedestrian crossings located on them. What should pedestrians do when they find themselves in this place?

A pedestrian can cross the road only in designated places, zebra crossings and in front of pedestrian crossing signs. A person should also be guided by general rules - calculate the distance to approaching cars and assess the traffic situation.

If the ring is regulated by a traffic light, then you need to cross it using the permitting signals. Drivers are obliged to let pedestrians pass, despite the fact that they are on a priority section of the road. It’s also worth remembering that cars only go one way here.

Violations of rules on the ring and penalties

Being attentive, following the rules and paying attention to all surrounding vehicles is the key to being safe on the ring section of the road. Violation of traffic rules for drivers in this area is a guarantee of receiving a fine.

If there is a traffic light in front of the roundabout, and the motorist enters while ignoring the prohibiting signal, the fine will be 1,000 rubles. If the violation was committed again, the amount will increase to 5 thousand or a deprivation of rights will be awarded for up to 6 months.

Fines may also be imposed if:

  1. During entry, priority was not given to vehicles located in the circular area.
  2. Driving clockwise on the roundabout, that is, in the oncoming lane.
  3. No light signals were used during the maneuvers.
  4. The exit from the site is not from the far right lane.
  5. Parking on the site at a distance of less than 5 meters from the intersection with the roadway.

Deprivation of rights is provided if the driver was moving counterclockwise - towards the direction.

Ignoring signs or obstructing other participants in the ring will cost the violator 1000 rubles.

If parking rules are violated on this section of the road, the fine will be 500 rubles.

The driver needs to be collected and choose the right lane to further overcome this section of the road in order to ensure the safety of himself and other road users.

In order not to make mistakes, you need to remember three simple rules:

  1. Warn of any maneuver with turn signal signals.
  2. Where the car is heading is where the turn signal needs to be turned on.
  3. If you need to change lanes, you should let cars moving along it pass.

Young drivers often get confused and lost in such areas. If it is not possible to change lanes or the required exit was missed, then you need to continue driving in a circle, preferably in the far left lane.

Rules for driving around a roundabout

You should leave the roundabout only from the far right lane. When driving on 2 or 3 and other lanes, the following sequence of actions is recommended:

  • Make sure in advance that the subsequent maneuver will not interfere with other drivers.
  • Turn on the right turn signal or make a gesture to inform other drivers about the intended maneuver.
  • Reducing your speed slightly, change lanes.
  • If necessary, repeat steps 1-3.
  • Having taken the far right lane, exit the intersection.

Traffic regulations establish the following sanctions for violation of the rules:

  • Driving (exiting or entering) on a red traffic light - the primary punishment is a fine of 1 thousand rubles, for a repeated violation - 5 thousand, and can also deprive the right to drive a vehicle for up to 6 months.
  • If a motorist does not allow a car that has higher priority on the road to pass , a fine of 1 thousand rubles will be issued.
  • If you ignore the rule about the need to warn other road users about the upcoming maneuver (changing lanes, turning), the driver will be punished with a fine of 500 rubles.
  • Driving in the oncoming lane is a serious violation; the violator may be deprived of his driving license for a long period. Traffic police officers also have the right to impose fines.
  • Violation of parking rules - if the car is left closer than 5 meters from the intersection of roads, the violator can get off with a warning or a fine (500 rubles).

Paragraph 8.5 of the traffic rules states that before turning right, left or making a U-turn, the driver is obliged to take in advance the appropriate extreme position on the roadway intended for traffic in a given direction, except in cases where a turn is made when entering an intersection where there is a roundabout.

When I let cars pass on the circle, which is the main one, I feel like a black sheep, because I am the only one with a right turn signal on, while for some reason everyone else is standing with a left turn signal.

Gentlemen! Why left turn signal? A circle is also an intersection; if you want to turn left at an intersection, you turn on the left turn signal; if you want to turn right, then turn on the right one. If you change lanes to the right, you turn on the right turn signal; if you change to the left, then turn on the left one. Right? What's worse than a circle?

When entering a roundabout, you always drive to the right, and therefore the turn signal must be turned on to the right. And to make it easier, you just need to remember where you turn the steering wheel and turn on the turn signal. When entering a circle, you always turn the steering wheel to the right, which means you need a right turn signal, just don’t forget to turn it on in advance. I hope this has been sorted out.

When entering a roundabout from the far right lane and there is a “Give Way” sign, you are required to give way only to those driving in the far right lane of the circle. Having missed them, you can enter the rightmost lane of the circle and then, without waiting for the free inner left lane of the circle, continue moving in your lane. But be prepared for the fact that those driving in the left lane will probably leave the circle with the conviction that you are obliged to let them through. Not only because you are on the far right lane of the circle, but also for the reason that you allegedly haven’t entered the circle at all.

At the same time, I in no way “bless” you for creating emergency situations. If someone moves into your line and does it with reinforced concrete confidence in their own rightness, there is no need to go for the ram. It won’t make it any easier because the traffic police finds you innocent, but the car will have to be repaired.

But if you yourself stop violating them, and also tell a couple of your friends about how to drive in circles correctly, then it will be much more useful in all respects.

In accordance with the traffic rules in force until 2010, such intersections were indicated by sign 4.3. After November 20 of that year, the “circular traffic” sign was supplemented with another designation - “give way.” This sign determines the priority of vehicles when negotiating a roundabout. But today, even without this sign, you are required to give way when entering a roundabout.

Performing such a maneuver obliges the driver to slow down, turn on the turn signal and move into the far right lane. When entering a roundabout, you need to make sure that other vehicles allow the new vehicle to pass. This approach ensures that a new traffic participant at the intersection will not interfere with motorists entering the roundabout.

Having figured out how to properly enter a roundabout intersection, you need to decide how to exit this section of the road. The traffic rules clearly state that exiting an intersection must be done exclusively from the right lane. Before changing to the next lane, the driver must objectively assess the situation on the road and let all cars moving on the right pass.

Important! Entry to a roundabout intersection is permitted from any lane, and exit is only from the right .

One of the main features of negotiating roundabouts is that overtaking is allowed on this section. Stopping is allowed 5 meters from the junction of the intersection and the road.

Driving through a roundabout requires maximum concentration from the driver. The main difficulties in overcoming this section of the road lie in choosing the right lane and changing lanes to exit the intersection. When performing any of the maneuvers, you must be guided by traffic regulations and objectively assess the current situation on the road. This approach minimizes the likelihood of creating an emergency.

Most roundabouts have adjacent roads. The driver must take this into account in order to correctly calculate the trajectory of his car around the ring. If there are more than two lanes on the roundabout, try to choose the middle lane to drive through. On a two-lane circle, take the position that is most advantageous for you, taking into account all the nuances. When on a main road, make sure that other road users give way. In the opposite situation, namely when occupying a secondary road, be sure to let other cars pass that have priority relative to you.

In a situation where you need to cross through a roundabout, it is possible to remain in the right lane. However, in some cases this makes it difficult for other vehicles to move, namely: the right lane is necessary for drivers in the middle row to maneuver to the right. Therefore, to avoid controversial situations and accidents, it is better to immediately try to occupy the central row.

Making a left turn, in principle, like any other maneuver, must strictly follow the rules of the road. In order to turn, the driver must first take the far left lane. If there are two rows on the ring, you need to start turning from the left, and when approaching the desired one, take the right lane and complete the maneuver by turning left.

The situation is more complicated with a roundabout with three lanes. Therefore, when changing lanes, you will need to move to the right twice. This will require you to be attentive and very careful. You definitely need to sensibly assess your skills and clearly understand the situation at the crossroads.

Violating the rules for driving through roundabouts can result in a fine for the driver. The amount of monetary compensation depends on the nature of the offense. Thus, entering a roundabout with a prohibitory traffic light signal threatens the offender with a fine of 1,000 rubles . This is stated in Art. 12.12 Code of Administrative Offences. In case of repeated violation, the driver will have to fork out 5,000 rubles. An alternative penalty in this case is the deprivation of a driver's license for 4-6 months. Charges are brought at the discretion of the court. It is also possible to impose a fine in the following circumstances:

  • failure to give right of way at a roundabout;
  • driving against traffic;
  • turning signal not turned on when changing lanes;
  • leaving the intersection not from the extreme right position;
  • parking at the intersection.

Failure to give right of way at a roundabout will also result in a fine. For example, when a driver entering a circle does not give way to road users already driving around the circle. According to Art. 12.13 of the Administrative Code, such actions are subject to a fine of 1000 rubles .

On roads with right-hand traffic, roundabouts should only be negotiated counterclockwise. Failure to comply with these requirements may result in loss of privileges.

According to the new traffic rules, parking at a roundabout is permitted when the vehicle is located 5 meters from the roadway being intersected. If these requirements are not met, the driver will have to pay a fine of 500 rubles . This point is regulated by Article 12.19 of the Code of Administrative Offences.
