Typically, the VIN is indicated on the body of the car, but the specific location where it is attached depends on the design of the vehicle and its manufacturer.

Knowing the number, you can conduct an online check on the official website of the State Traffic Safety Inspectorate of the Russian Federation. To do this, you need to perform the following operations:

In addition to the online service, you can also check your car’s registration using a direct request to the traffic police. Registration of a vehicle

All vehicles (TS) are subject to mandatory state registration (clause 1 of Article 358 of the Tax Code of the Russian Federation, Order of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation dated November 24, 2008 N 1001).

Vehicles with a permissible maximum weight of over 12 tons, if their route passes along federal highways, must be registered in the Platon system (Article 31.1 of the Federal Law of November 8, 2007 N 257-FZ).

Registration of a vehicle with the State Traffic Safety Inspectorate, as well as registration in the Platon system, is completed in the information register Registration of vehicles - type of operation Registration in the section Directories - Taxes - Transport tax - Registration of vehicles.

The location is determined in a special order:

• water vehicles (except for small vessels) - place of state registration of the vehicle (clause 1, clause 5, article 83 of the Tax Code of the Russian Federation);
• air vehicles - location of the organization (clause 1.1, clause 5, article 83 of the Tax Code of the Russian Federation).

• OKTMO - code of the territory in which the vehicle is registered, available for correction only if Registration is with another tax authority ;
