Is it possible to register an engine without documents?

The car can be registered after replacing the engine, even in the absence of technical documents for the unit. In the new procedure for vehicle registration in paragraph 2 of clause 17 of Order of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia No. 399 of June 26, 2018. they say how to fit a new engine into the vehicle title. It has now become possible to register a unit without presenting a sales contract or other papers confirming ownership.

To know how to enter an engine number into the PTS without documents, you must first pay attention to its type and whether it matches the factory standard. And, on the contrary, re-registration of a non-standard car engine must be carried out with the provision of documents certifying its full and legal ownership. This could be an agreement of purchase and sale, exchange, or gift.

If the owner of the car is in doubt about how to register the car when a “non-original” engine is installed, then you just need to have a purchase and sale agreement for the unit with you. In this case, employees of the traffic police agency do not have the right to refuse registration. This regulation is specified in paragraph 2 of clause 17 of Order No. 399 of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation.

Replacing an engine with different parameters

The motor has its own unique number. It is prohibited to damage, alter or destroy it. After the repair, the engine will be inspected by traffic police inspectors, and if it is not on the wanted list or illegally removed from another vehicle, they will enter its data into their database.

The symbols that determine the uniqueness of each machine engine are entered into the automatic accounting system. Inspectors make a note in the PTS about the change in the engine number, but, I repeat, the engine model in this case should not change.
