Types, programs and features of CASCO insurance

The concept of CASCO

CASCO is car insurance, on the basis of which a decision is made to pay money in the event of damage or theft.

CASCO. Savings and types of reimbursement

You can issue:

  1. Full insurance. Compensates for losses associated with damage or theft of a vehicle.
  2. Partial insurance. Compensates for costs associated with only part of the losses.

What is CASCO?

Depending on the type of vehicle, CASCO is divided into the following:

  • Auto CASCO – this category includes insurance of land vehicles such as cars, motorcycles, wheeled special equipment, car trailers and semi-trailers.
  • Air CASCO is insurance coverage that covers risks associated with theft or damage to aircraft.
  • Marine CASCO – insurance of sea and river transport.

But predominantly, when uttering the word CASCO, consumers of insurance services are talking specifically about the automobile type of insurance.

The benefits of CASCO

This type of insurance reimburses expenses for one or more types of risks.

There is no separate law for CASCO, and therefore insurance is regulated by a number of documents:

  1. Ch. 48 Civil Code of the Russian Federation.
  2. Law “On the organization of insurance business in the Russian Federation”.
  3. Law on Consumer Protection".
  4. Standards of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation.
  5. Standards of the All-Russian Union of Insurers.
  6. Resolution of the Plenum of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation.

The main advantages of CASCO:

  • the car holder will receive compensation even if it is established that he is at fault for the damage;
  • funds are paid if the vehicle is stolen or cannot be restored;
  • in case of partial damage, the insurer will carry out repairs at its own expense.

ATTENTION!

The insurance company has the right to refuse to issue a policy without explaining the reasons.

Disadvantages of CASCO:

  • rates are determined by the insurance company, not the state;
  • In case of bankruptcy of the insurance company, payments are not guaranteed.

Differences between CASCO and OSAGO

CASCO is voluntary car insurance against any type of risk, even theft. If you are at fault for an accident, this insurance will also cover repair costs for your own vehicle.

OSAGO is compulsory motor insurance. If the fault for the accident lies with you, OSAGO will cover the losses to compensate for damages to third parties. The culprit pays for the repair of his personal car from his own wallet.

Difference between CASCO and OSAGO:

  • OSAGO is compulsory insurance, and CASCO is voluntary;
  • MTPL protects other people's vehicles, and CASCO insures against many risks;
  • under compulsory motor liability insurance there is a payment limit, and CASCO covers losses in full;
  • The cost of an OSAGO policy is significantly lower than that of a CASCO policy.

ATTENTION!

Nowadays, most drivers prefer to have both insurance policies at the same time, allowing them to protect themselves and their vehicles from the maximum number of concerns.

Main types

Today it has a fairly large selection of various CASCO policies. They all have their own characteristics and advantages over each other.

The most common types of CASCO insurance on the territory of the Russian Federation are:

  • complete;
  • partial;
  • aggregate;
  • non-aggregate.

There are a lot of differences between all of them, but the most important thing is the cost. CASCO full allows you to maximally protect your car from risks of all kinds.

Even if the property is damaged in the absence of the owner, he will receive compensation for damage in full. Partial CASCO allows you to choose individual risks. Aggregate and non-aggregate policies differ from each other in the amounts of cash compensation.

Complete

Full CASCO is understood as an insurance policy that protects the car from all possible risks that await it both on the road and in the parking lot.

The type of policy in question usually includes two types of risks:

  • damage;
  • hijacking

The risk of “theft” allows you to receive compensation as a result of the theft of a car. Most often, insurance companies do not have questions regarding such an insured event if the client is trustworthy and has no criminal history.

The following insured events fall under the concept of “damage”:

  • traffic accidents;
  • hooligan or vandal actions of third parties.

Despite a fairly wide range of coverage, this type of insurance does not always allow you to quickly and easily receive an insurance payment, since there are various types of exceptions.

They often take up several pages of the contract concluded when purchasing a policy. However, full CASCO makes it possible to minimize any financial costs as a result of damage to the car.

Partial

Partial CASCO refers to simplified insurance programs. Their peculiarity is that they cover only part of the risks.

There are a very large number of them:

  • "naked CASCO";
  • «50×50»;
  • "light".

Each insurance company offers its clients individual programs that allow them to choose something suitable for a particular case.

An important advantage of partial CASCO is the ability to significantly reduce the cost of the purchased insurance service, as well as avoid overpaying for unnecessary options.

Aggregate

Aggregate CASCO implies a certain monetary limit within which payments can be made.

With the occurrence of each insured event, as a result of which monetary compensation was received, the monetary limit is reduced exactly by the amount received by the policyholder.

If the payment limit is 300 thousand rubles . and insured events occurred, as a result of which the insurance company paid out in the amount of 250 thousand rubles. , then as a result of the next accident the client will be able to receive no more than 50 thousand rubles . This is both an advantage and a disadvantage.

The cost of aggregate CASCO is slightly lower than non-aggregate (non-reducible) CASCO. But at the same time, there is always a possibility that the payment limit will not be enough to cover all the damage received.

That is why the optimal solution would be an aggregate policy to insure against only one risk - theft.

Non-aggregate

A synonym for the word “non-aggregate” in this context is “non-reducible”. CASCO non-aggregate type allows you to receive monetary compensation in any amount an unlimited number of times.

That is, in fact, it is “unlimited” insurance. The only drawback is the high cost compared to aggregate type CASCO.

The type of policy under consideration is the optimal choice when the client insures his car against a large number of different risks (full CASCO).

Tariffs for CASCO

Tariff changes are influenced by many factors:

  • indicators on thefts of a certain make and model of vehicles in the region;
  • the price of spare parts and the cost of a standard hour for maintenance services for a car brand in a populated area;
  • period of operation;
  • engine power;
  • age and driving experience of all car owners;
  • their insurance history (frequency of accidents and insurance amounts paid);
  • additional policy services;
  • type of transport security device;
  • form of parking - garage, parking lot or street;
  • type of control - left- or right-hand drive.

Cash compensation according to TTS

According to the decision of the Supreme Court, within the framework of voluntary insurance under CASCO, they are obliged to compensate for the loss of marketable value, because it relates to one of the types of damage, such as a dent on the wing, an oil leak.

Loss of marketable value is understood as the difference between the value of a car that was not involved in an accident and that was restored after it. The value of a car involved in an accident is significantly reduced on the market when it is sold.

The Supreme Court determined: “the decrease in the value of motor vehicles is caused by the deterioration of its marketability and performance qualities due to a decrease in the strength and durability of individual devices that were the result of an accident and the subsequent repair work to bring it into working condition.”

The Supreme Court ordered the companies to pay for the vehicle's vehicle, since it is real damage subject to compensation under voluntary insurance, regardless of the existence of conditions for it in the contract.

The refusal may be justified by the commission of a gross violation on the part of the driver. However, the Supreme Court believes that it must be noted in the contract, otherwise the company is obliged to compensate for the damage.

Ways to save on CASCO

There are a number of options that can help you save on this type of insurance.

Franchise

The deductible is the portion of the loss that is not covered by the insurance company. The presence of a franchise significantly reduces the price of the policy.

There are two types of franchise:

  1. Conditional. If the loss is less than the deductible amount, the driver receives nothing. Otherwise, the insurance company will provide full compensation.
  2. Unconditional. With such a deductible, the insurance payment is reduced in any situation.

ATTENTION!

The deductible may have a fixed form or a percentage of the sum insured.

Motor vehicle insurance against one type of risk

Sometimes the insurance company provides a discount in case of partial car insurance. The client is asked to leave only the main types of risks and not include others in the policy.

Special offers

Insurance companies provide a discount when simultaneously issuing two types of policies - CASCO and MTPL or installing a special telematics device in the car.

ATTENTION!

The device records and transmits to the insurer data on the speed of transport and the driving style of the motorist.

If telematics confirms the absence of an accident this year, the cost of the policy may be reduced by 20%. For those who like to play hard, it will increase in accordance with the number of violations.

The discount is not provided immediately, since the insurer needs time to process statistics from the device. This may take from 2 to 12 months.

Registration of CASCO insurance for a period of less than a year

This option will be beneficial in the following situations:

  1. The owner of the car is planning to sell it in the near future or transport it to another locality for transfer to a new owner.
  2. The driver does not plan to use the car for some time, perhaps during the winter season.

Types of CASCO insurance

The criteria used to divide CASCO into types are the risks covered by the insurance and the methods of payment. So, CASCO insurance can be full or partial. Depending on the payment method, insurance may be:

  • aggregate;
  • non-aggregate;
  • with a franchise.

All of the above types of car insurance have their own characteristics. But in any case, CASCO has the following advantages:

  • the amount of compensation may be equal to the cost of a new car;
  • the policy includes an expanded list of insurance risks;
  • compensation will be paid without taking into account the fact of guilt/innocence of the policyholder.

Next, we’ll look at what types of CASCO car insurance there are.

Full insurance

The increased cost of this type of policy is compensated by guarantees of compensation for losses from the maximum number of insured events. In addition, the owner of this policy can count on the provision of bonus services. As for insurance cases, some were listed above. In addition, full CASCO covers the following risks:

  • fire;
  • vandalism;
  • arson;
  • flooding;
  • failure through ice, etc.

Additional services may also be specified in the contract:

  • provision of a car for use while your own car is being repaired;
  • calling a lawyer;
  • calling a taxi;
  • tow truck services;
  • psychological counseling.

Full CASCO insurance is usually issued for 1 year. Some insurance companies offer to conclude a contract for 6 months. However, this is unprofitable for the car owner, since the cost of such insurance is reduced not by 2 times, but by 30%.

Partial insurance

Incomplete insurance provides the car owner with the opportunity to choose only the main risks.

Such a policy in most cases includes insurance only against damage, while payment of compensation against theft and theft is not provided.

Due to the narrowing of the range of services, the cost of insurance is significantly reduced. Partial CASCO is suitable for vehicles that are well protected from theft - stored in a garage or in a securely guarded parking lot, equipped with a security system and not on the list of the most stolen cars.

Insurance companies offer their clients ready-made partial CASCO programs. Therefore, the car owner should think about which option is most suitable for him, taking into account the make and model of the car, as well as its storage conditions. The validity period of this type of insurance contract varies over a wide range:

  • minimum – 1 month;
  • maximum – not limited.

From damage

In this case, protected risks include:

  • car damage in an accident;
  • damage to the vehicle as a result of natural phenomena - earthquakes, floods, snow drifts, hurricanes, fires, etc.;
  • damage to the car by falling objects;
  • breaking glass;
  • illegal actions of third parties - theft of units, components, individual parts, damage to the machine;
  • damage during transportation - evacuation with partial or full load, towing;
  • damage to the vehicle as a result of the actions of rescue or emergency services or law enforcement officers;
  • terrorist act.

From theft

The difference between the concepts of “theft” and “theft” is great, so these terms should not be confused. Theft is aimed at obtaining commercial profit from the sale of a vehicle. In this case, the crime is planned in advance. Criminals usually steal expensive, fairly new cars, then resell them or dismantle them for parts for sale.

Theft involves spontaneous actions by offenders to remove a vehicle from its location. For them, the make, model and year of manufacture of the stolen car are of no fundamental importance. When purchasing CASCO, check out the list of vehicles most exposed to this risk. If your car is one of them, you will have to pay for theft insurance at an increased rate. And this is not the only feature of this policy.

“Theft+total”

“CASCO total” implies protection of the vehicle from the risk of its complete destruction. This service is widely used throughout our country. The combination of car insurance against theft and total loss is different from full CASCO. In particular, if an accident occurs that does not result in the destruction of the car, the owner will pay for the damage at his own expense. But in case of loss of the vehicle, insurance payments under “CASCO theft + total” will compensate the car owner for serious losses.

Another plus is that this insurance will cost less than a full CASCO policy. Its cost is no more than 4% of the cost of the car. But there is one nuance here. Some insurance companies believe that the term “total loss” refers to cars whose repairs will exceed, for example, 70% of the cost of the car.

“Mini CASCO” policy

This insurance is preferred by experienced drivers who rarely get into accidents. Mini-CASCO programs differ from different companies, but the following principles are common to them:

  • the policy protects against a small number of risks (even one is allowed);
  • in case of an insured event, the number of possible claims is limited;
  • the contract specifies a mandatory franchise;
  • the service life of the vehicle, the length of service and the age of the driver must meet certain requirements;
  • the amount of the maximum insurance payment does not exceed the actual value of the car, etc.

The terms of the programs depend on the car brand. First of all, the likelihood of theft is considered. Another criterion is the cost of vehicle repairs.

Companies will refuse insurance payment if the car:

  • has manufacturing defects;
  • used for driving training purposes;
  • was obviously defective;
  • took part in sports competitions.

CASCO Light program

This is also one of the options for budget vehicle insurance. Most insurance companies enter into a CASCO Light agreement on the following terms:

  • The age of the car is 5-7 years. Each insurer sets the specific value of this indicator at its own discretion.
  • Fixing damage. This procedure must be performed by a traffic police officer.
  • Limit of payments for the risk “Damage”. As a rule, the amount of compensation in the event of such an insured event does not exceed 1/3 of the cost of the vehicle.
  • Driver's age. This restriction is set only by some companies. Typically, a CASCO Light insurance contract is signed with drivers at least 25 years old.
  • Availability of car alarm. Compliance with this requirement is very strictly controlled. The car owner is required to provide receipts confirming the purchase of the anti-theft system and the contract for its installation.

Aggregate and non-aggregate insurance

The aggregate insurance policy provides for the establishment of a limited limit on the total amount to be paid for all recorded insured events. The next monetary compensation for losses reduces the value of this parameter. And when the aggregate amount is exhausted, the CASCO policy will cease to be valid.

For example, initially the contract was signed for a total amount of damages of 500 thousand rubles. RUB 150,000 was paid to repair damage sustained in an accident. If the car is stolen, its owner will be paid 350,000 rubles. regardless of the actual cost of the vehicle.

This type of insurance is preferred by motorists who rarely use personal vehicles. But when they get behind the wheel, they drive carefully, without getting into an accident.

With non-aggregate CASCO, the volume of payments is not limited, regardless of the number of requests to the insurer. The only limitation is the maximum possible amount of compensation for an individual damage - this is the non-aggregate amount established when signing the contract.

Drivers choose this type of policy:

  • characterized by careless driving style;
  • having little experience in driving a vehicle.

With franchise

A deductible is an amount that is not paid by the insurer upon the occurrence of a risk specified in the policy program. The peculiarity of this option is that its type and percentage are determined by the policyholder, and not by the insurance company.

The insurer, offering to purchase a policy with a deductible, motivates the car owner with a significant discount, which can reach 41%. If you have a policy of this type, there is no need to contact the insurance company regarding minor emergencies.

Let's consider the principle of operation of a franchise. For example, the contract fixed the size of this parameter at 40 thousand rubles. Then, in the event of an SK accident:

  • compensates for losses minus 40 thousand rubles if the amount of damage exceeds this amount;
  • exempt from making payments for damage not exceeding 40 thousand rubles.

“CASCO Smart” policy

This program is based on a new technology that allows each motorist to be provided with an individual tariff based on the quality and style of driving. Over the course of several weeks or months, a special telematics device collects data on the vehicle’s driving behavior - the number of lane changes, accelerations, braking, etc. Such a device is connected to one of the terminals of the vehicle’s electrical wiring panel and monitors the characteristics of each trip.

Having studied this data, an insurance company employee will be able to assess with a fairly high degree of accuracy the likelihood of risks of insured events and provide careful motorists with a discount. For example, at Ingosstrakh it can reach 40% of the standard cost of a CASCO policy. And in AlfaStrakhovanie – 55%.

“CASCO Smart” rather complements the terms of standard insurance. During the trial period, the owner of the car enters into a test agreement. When this period ends, an adjustment factor will be included in the agreement.

Policy with GAP option

The abbreviation present in the name of this insurance comes from the English phrase Guaranteed Asset Protection, which means “guaranteed asset protection”. In our case, we are talking about the cost of the vehicle.

The terms of such a policy make it possible to level out or significantly reduce the difference between the amount of insurance payment and the market price of the car. But the car owner will receive compensation only in the event of theft of the car or its constructive loss. Obviously, a CASCO policy with a GAP option is most often purchased for a credit vehicle. If the above risks occur, the car owner will not have to pay off the debt remaining under the loan agreement at his own expense.

It is important to remember that not all insurance companies offer such an insurance product. At the same time, the requirement that the insurer be on the list of bank partners is usually put forward.

Registration of an insured event

In the event of an accident, the sequence of driver actions is as follows:

  1. Stop, turn on the hazard warning lights and display a warning triangle.
  2. Registration of an accident in accordance with the European protocol without involving the police, if the damage is less than 100 thousand rubles. and there is no basis for dispute. To do this, fill out an accident notification. The European protocol limit can be increased to 400 thousand rubles by using the mobile application “OSAGO Assistant”. To do this, both participants in the accident must have access to their personal accounts on the State Services portal.
  3. Call the traffic police and ambulance if more than two cars are involved in the accident, damage to other property or people is caused. Upon completion, obtain a conclusion from the traffic police inspectors in the form of a resolution, protocol or determination.
  4. Keeping the car in its original position until the police arrive.
  5. Photographing the scene of an accident and damaged vehicles from various angles. The maximum number of details reduces the grounds for refusal of compensation for damage by the insurer.
  6. When damage to a car is caused by unknown people or a natural phenomenon, it is advisable to find eyewitnesses of the incident. Write down the full name, telephone contact and residential address of witnesses. Their testimony will serve as confirmation in the event of a dispute with the insurance company or determination of the truth in court.
  7. Notification of representatives of the insurance company. Most often, the customer service telephone number is indicated in the policy. If there is a different communication option specified there, stick to it.

The insurer must be notified of the accident immediately after damage has been established. The operator registers the request and explains the sequence of actions. Strictly follow the instructions and comply with all further requirements of the insurance company.

ATTENTION!

Do not repair the vehicle until the company has made a decision regarding compensation for damages. Otherwise, payment may be denied.

The concept of aggregate and non-aggregate sum

Clients, before giving their consent to cooperate with an insurance company, must understand the issue in detail so that problems do not arise in the future. After signing all the papers, all controversial issues will be resolved by the court. For example, the amount of the agreement is set by the client, but the insurer offers only two forms:

  1. Aggregate. It represents the cost that decreases during the year by the number of payments made under the contract. As a result, when the limit expires, the policy ceases to be valid.
  2. Non-aggregate. Drivers like it more, since the amount remains unchanged throughout the entire action and does not decrease. In the event of an accident, the client receives the full cost of the necessary repairs. But when choosing this insurance, the overpayment will be 15-30%.

An example of an aggregate variety. The car was insured for 500 thousand rubles, and the first damage amounted to 200 thousand rubles, after which the limit decreased to 300 thousand rubles. After another accident recorded by the traffic police, compensation was paid in the amount of 180 thousand rubles.

When the car was stolen, the owner received only the remainder - 120 thousand rubles. After which the insurance became invalid.

Aggregate insurance is perfect for experienced drivers who feel confident on the road and have experience of accident-free driving. Experts advise the second option for beginners.

Photographing damage

If new defects are noticed on a vehicle, it is worth taking photographs of the damage, even if the insurer does not require them.

Uniform standards for photographs are determined by the Bank of the Russian Federation:

  • 2–4 frames of vehicles with a good view of the location and clarity of license plates;
  • at least 2 photographs of the damaged part;
  • horizontal position of the camera when taking photographs;
  • recording in the photo the car, the scene of the incident, and preferably a sign with the name of the street and the number of the building or other recognizable object;
  • minor damage must be removed at a minimum distance.

ATTENTION!

In the event of a controversial situation, the employee must be sure that the vehicle was not touched after the incident. In this regard, do not rush to wash off the dirt from it or make other changes.

Receiving a Refund

Specific compensation criteria are specified in the insurance contract. Each insurance company may have its own.

Basic conditions:

  1. Damage must be an insured event.
  2. The policyholder complied with all insurance rules.

The following persons can apply for coverage of losses:

  1. Insured or beneficiary. The insured may be the driver or owner of the car, or another person who has entered into an insurance contract. The beneficiary is the party to whom the payment is due. If you buy a car on a car loan and have CASCO insurance, the beneficiary is the lender.
  2. An authorized representative of the policyholder or beneficiary. The insurance company will require you to provide a notarized power of attorney.
  3. Heirs. In this case, you must have a certificate of inheritance with you.

Main types of risks

The insurance service of this type most often includes the following types of risks for which monetary compensation is due:

  • hijacking;
  • damage;
  • accident;
  • other risks.

Other risks mean various kinds of specific situations, the occurrence of which is unlikely. Their inclusion in the list of options usually has an insignificant effect on its cost.

Hijacking

The most common risk, immediately after damage, is theft insurance. This kind of option is extremely common.

It is most often used by owners of two types of cars: very expensive and the most common. These two categories of cars are the most stolen. The first ones are stolen to order. The second ones are for disassembly, for spare parts.

There is an important nuance regarding the timing of payments for this type of risk. Most insurance companies indicate in their contract concluded when purchasing CASCO, a period of 2 months.

Since this is how much time is usually allocated by the police to search for a car. If during this time the stolen property was not discovered, then the former owner should visit the branch and obtain the appropriate certificate. It must be submitted to the insurance company.

Another important feature is the additionally concluded contract in the event of an insured event in which the stolen car is subsequently discovered.

It comes in two types:

  • the policyholder returns the received monetary compensation, the car is taken back
  • the policyholder transfers the vehicle to the insurance company and renounces ownership of it.

In the latter case, the insurance company has the right to deal with the acquired car at its own discretion.

Damage

Insurance risk “damage” is an extremely broad concept, which covers a large number of different situations (damage as a result of an accident or otherwise).

An important feature that is covered in the insurance contract regarding this point is the method of compensation for damage.

There are two varieties:

  • performing restoration work at a service station with which the insurance company has an agreement;
  • making a monetary payment equivalent to the damage received.

Accident

With a CASCO policy you can insure not only property, but also health and life.

Today, insurance programs allow you to receive payments when:

  • temporary disability;
  • harm to health;
  • disability;
  • of death.

This type of insurance option involves payments under the contract in question within the limits set by the insurance company itself.

Other risks

“Other risks” mean various types of factors, mainly natural phenomena:

  • tree falling on a car;
  • damage by precipitation (hail or something else);
  • lightning strike;
  • flood.

Also, such risks include all kinds of utility disasters (burst pipes, broken power lines), as a result of which the car was seriously damaged.

There are a great many types of CASCO insurance. Most insurance companies are extremely customer-oriented, which is why they offer all kinds of programs and sets of options that make the type of policy in question simply irreplaceable when driving in the city and beyond.

How to reduce the cost of CASCO, read the article: Cost of CASCO. Repairs under CASCO are described here.

How the cost of CASCO is calculated in the MSC company is discussed on this page.

Compensation options under the CASCO program

There are three methods of compensation for losses under CASCO:

  1. Repair. To restore the car, the insurer sends it to a technical service center. Sometimes the policyholder is given the right to personal choice between a service station and a car service, if such a point is specified in the contract. When repairs are completed, the bill is paid by the insurance company, not the owner. If the insurance provides for a deductible, the owner must pay the amount before receiving a referral for repairs.
  2. Cash payment. Its volume is determined based on the results of damage examination. If the owner does not agree with the assessment of the insurance company, he has the right to resort to the services of independent experts. Another option for receiving payment is to provide payments from the auto repair shop confirming payment for the repair work. The list of service centers is specified in the contract. Funds in such circumstances are issued in cash or transferred to a bank account.
  3. Replacement of lost vehicles with similar ones. This form of compensation applies when the car is not recoverable or is stolen. This point must be specified in the insurance contract. If it is missing, the damage is compensated in cash.

What will a CASCO policy provide real protection against?

What is CASCO?

Insuring a car under CASCO means getting peace of mind and confidence in a refund in case of total loss of the car, or repair of any damage to the vehicle resulting from the occurrence of unforeseen and often unfavorable events.

Such a risk covered by CASCO insurance protection as “Damage” includes full or partial compensation for lost property in the event of the following circumstances:

  1. Road accident.
  2. Fire, explosion.
  3. Restoring damage caused by natural disasters - hurricane, flood, earthquake.
  4. Elimination of the consequences of dangerous meteorological phenomena such as hail, rain, lightning strikes.
  5. Sudden loss of ice or snow.
  6. Damage caused by animals.
  7. Damage to property due to illegal actions of third parties.

The risk of “Theft” or “Theft”, which can also be included in the CASCO insurance program, is responsible for compensating the owner of the car in case of its complete loss, or any of its parts, after the occurrence of certain events:

  • Theft.
  • Robbery.
  • Robbery.
  • Hijacking.

In addition to all of the above, the insurer may offer to expand standard insurance coverage by including additional risks in the policy. Such as, for example, insurance of additionally installed expensive equipment, protection of the life and health of the driver and passengers in the event of an accident, voluntary civil liability insurance, assistance in case of unexpected expenses or technical problems.

But the availability and completeness of risk compensation may vary depending on the company chosen. Therefore, before concluding a contract for CASCO car insurance , you should familiarize yourself with its basic rules. This can be done on our website in the section “Rules of CASCO insurance for popular companies” . This need arises so that you can clearly understand what compensation you can count on if certain events occur. And more details about the insurance risks covered by the CASCO policy can be found in the article “Insurance risks included in the CASCO policy” .

Actions before purchasing a policy

Before purchasing an insurance policy, you should take a number of actions:

  1. Check that the selected insurance company has a valid license to issue CASCO insurance.
  2. Learn basic concepts. “Theft”, “damage”, “theft” - these definitions are interpreted by insurance companies in their own way. Read the terms and conditions of insurance in detail; do not hesitate to ask clarifying questions before concluding an agreement.
  3. Study the terms and conditions of insurance. This important clause of the contract is indicated directly in the text, sometimes attached to the main document. Remember to read the rules before signing the contract, as you may not be able to comply with some of them. For example, sometimes closed parking lots are not equipped with a security system or are not able to provide documents confirming its presence.
  4. Find out the rules of interaction between the insurer and you. Specify how quickly and in what way you are obliged to notify the company about the insurance situation that has occurred. Contradiction to the conditions leads to a reduction or complete cancellation of the payment.
  5. Clarify the timing of compensation in advance, that is, by what point the payment will be provided or the car will be repaired.

Is it possible to receive a monetary refund without a traffic police certificate?

Some insurance companies under the CASCO agreement make payments without requiring a certificate from the traffic police if the car has suffered minor damage, which includes breaking glass elements, lighting parts, and minor damage to the body.

Damage to the body must consist of two mating parts, for example, the right fender and the door. But the contract must stipulate that they will be replaced.

There are often cases when the company is ready to pay compensation or help with repairs when stones of various diameters fall on vehicles, gravel is thrown out from under the wheels of a car in front, or when it hits an obstacle.

If the vehicle was damaged as a result of the above cases, the owner must contact the insurance company to submit an application with a request to cover the damage incurred.

Attached to the application:

  • passport of the vehicle owner;
  • CASCO policy;
  • receipt of payment of the insurance premium;
  • documents for vehicles.

The Insurance Rules provide for them, so it is quite possible to contact the insurance company with an application to receive compensation.

CASCO rules provide for an unlimited number of claims during the year to obtain this type of damage coverage, although insurance companies impose restrictions on the number of claims. The amount of coverage assigned by insurance companies on average is no more than $500.

Also, companies do not pay for damage caused to the glass hatch or roof. As for exterior mirrors, they pay for glazing; some companies pay in full for the set.

Registration of a policy

The CASCO registration sequence consists of several stages:

  1. Preparation of documents. Passport, a set of documents for the car (registration certificate or sales contract), technical inspection certificate, driver’s licenses of persons who will be included in the policy.
  2. Visiting an insurance company on a potentially insured vehicle. The car is inspected by an expert to record possible defects and a conclusion is drawn up based on the results of the inspection. The insurer is not responsible for existing transport imperfections.
  3. Familiarization with the terms of the contract offered by the insurance company. It is important to know what exactly motor vehicles are protected from and under what circumstances you are entitled to payment.
  4. Signing and paying the cost of the insurance contract in case of suitable conditions.
  5. Receipt of the policy, receipt of payment, insurance instructions.

ATTENTION!

The insurance policy comes into effect from the date specified in it.

List of insurance cases for payments under CASCO

Typically, the insurance company in its Rules establishes a list of insured events for which it assumes the obligation to make payments.

However, they are similar in all companies and boil down to:

  • complete unsuitability of vehicles for use. The settlement procedure for a total loan car is carried out according to the terms of the CASCO agreement;

The insurance company keeps the serviceable parts for itself or gives it to the policyholder, then when calculating the amount of the insured amount, it deducts their cost from the total.

  • significant damage caused to the vehicle and additional equipment as a result of a traffic accident or collision with structures;
  • car falling into water, ravine, abyss;
  • exposure to natural disasters, such as hurricane winds;
  • illegal actions of third parties that led to damage to the car;
  • assault on a car, its theft, theft.

Actions upon the occurrence of an insured event

The general algorithm of actions includes the following components:

  1. Report to the traffic police by calling 102 or 112 if the car is stolen or you are involved in a serious accident.
  2. Call an ambulance by calling 103 or 112 if people were injured in an accident.
  3. Call the fire department by number 101 or 112 if there is an explosion or fire.
  4. Notifying your insurance company using the number specified in the contract about the insured event.
  5. Submitting a written application to the insurer within the period specified by the insurance conditions.

ATTENTION!

Try to always have with you the contact information of your own insurer, as well as the number and validity period of your insurance policy. It is optimal to save this data on your personal phone.

When using a car, the driver must carry with him a package of documents:

  • driver's license or temporary permit to drive a vehicle;
  • vehicle registration certificate;
  • OSAGO policy in paper form;
  • information about CASCO: insurance company contacts, policy number and validity period;
  • an incident statement and a pen to fill it out.

Peculiarities

The type of policy in question has a very large number of features.

First of all, these should include such nuances as:

  • the amount of the insurance premium in each insurance company is calculated individually;
  • monetary compensation cannot be more than the market value of the car;
  • Compliance with insurance requirements is mandatory;
  • the choice of various risks and additional options is carried out by the client independently.

Unlike compulsory civil liability insurance, the cost of a CASCO policy is not strictly fixed. Each company calculates the price independently.

There are a very large number of different criteria that are taken into account (age and wear and tear of the car, driving experience, accident-free status and much more). Moreover, the amount of the insurance premium under the same conditions can differ by 2 times in two different insurance companies.

The MTPL policy is always valid during the insurance period, regardless of various factors.

At the same time, under CASCO, the insurance company has the right to refuse payment if the client violates his obligations specified in the concluded contract.

An important feature of this type of policy is freedom of choice: the client, at his own discretion, can choose the risks that allow him to receive monetary compensation.

This is a very big advantage, as it allows you to eliminate options that are unnecessary for the driver.

Reasons for refusing reimbursement

Let's consider common grounds for refusal to cover damages:

  • the situation does not fall under the terms of the insurance contract;
  • the driver or passenger was injured, not the vehicle;
  • the insured vehicle was damaged purposefully by its owner or a person authorized to drive it;
  • the car was damaged while being driven by a driver who is not included in the policy or does not have a driving license;
  • vehicles were damaged when used as non-personal transport (taxi services or for driving lessons);
  • the motorist was under the influence of alcohol or drugs;
  • the defect occurred due to normal wear and tear;
  • the true reasons for the insured event were hidden;
  • the policyholder did not fulfill the obligations specified in the contract and conditions;
  • the insured incident occurred after the expiration of the validity period of the insurance contract.

What risks are covered under CASCO insurance?

Insurance risks, the occurrence of which will entail payments, include:
  • accidents and other road incidents;
  • hijacking;
  • various natural phenomena as a result of which the car was damaged or completely destroyed;
  • falling of various objects onto a vehicle (advertising boards, pieces of ice from the roof, trees and their branches);
  • consequences of fire. But there is a caveat: if the fire did not occur due to a wiring fault. Spontaneous combustion is also insured separately.
If the car is damaged due to:
  • exposure to radioactive substances due to a nuclear explosion;
  • the driver being intoxicated;
  • popular unrest and military operations (including maneuvers and exercises);
  • malfunction of windshield wipers, headlights, brakes, steering system, worn out treads that do not provide adequate grip on the road surface. Operation of a machine with such breakdowns is prohibited.
  • The insurance company will not pay if:
  • the insured event occurred outside the territory specified in the contract (for example, in another country);
  • the owner intentionally damaged the car;
  • maintenance was not completed on time;
  • the car participated in various races;
  • another person who does not have a license to drive a car was driving;
  • the vehicle was seized by order of the authorities.

Complaint in case of disputes with the insurance company

If a conflict situation arises between you and the insurer, the first step is to try to resolve the dispute out of court. First, file a complaint with your insurance company. This can be done in person at the office or by calling the claims registration service number. The complaint is drawn up in free form.

ATTENTION!

A financial expert examines controversial situations of insurers and their clients in a pre-trial manner free of charge.

The trial period lasts up to 30 days. If the decision does not suit the insurance company or the car owner, they have the right to challenge it in court.

Features of CASCO insurance for credit cars

When insuring a collateral vehicle, the policy protects it first. When a car serves as collateral for a lender, he is one of the beneficiaries. If the borrower stops paying the debt, the bank has the right to take the vehicle, sell it and repay the debt.

The lender classifies the car as an unreliable collateral because it could be stolen or significantly damaged in an accident. In this regard, the bank prefers to include in the car loan agreement the rule of vehicle insurance against the risks of “damage” and “theft”. In the event of an insured event, the loan debt will be covered by payment from the insurance company.

ATTENTION!

The payment is distributed to compensate the principal debt and interest under the loan agreement. If, after paying off the debt, some of the funds remain from the insured amount, it is transferred to the individual.

Specifics of old car insurance

The CASCO policy is voluntary. This is its main difference from compulsory motor liability insurance, which is required to be purchased by every driver. This is largely what makes it difficult to obtain insurance. The likelihood of purchasing a policy at a good price decreases as the age of the vehicle increases.

In obtaining compulsory motor liability insurance company

has no right to refuse, since this type of insurance is provided for by law. In turn, CASCO is issued voluntarily, which is why enterprises often refuse drivers.

In the Russian Federation, an old car means a vehicle that has been in operation for 7 years or more. Most companies agree to issue a policy for domestic cars (up to 8 years) and foreign cars (up to 10 years). This explains why cars older than 10 years are not insured - this option is not profitable for the enterprise. An older vehicle is more likely to be damaged or involved in an accident.
