How long can you drive with a Kazakh license in Russia?

If a citizen of Kazakhstan plans to stay in Russia for less than 90 calendar days, there is no need to change his driver’s license. It is enough for him to provide the officer at the border with a valid license, internal passport, STS and Green Card policy for review. Are foreign rights valid in Russia?

If you are changing your driver's document due to its expiration date, take care of this in advance. For an invalid license, you will be issued a warning or a fine for expired licenses in Kazakhstan, which is 5 MCI (or 14,585 tenge). If you violate again within a year, you will have to pay more.

For foreigners who have foreign residence permits and received Russian citizenship, 60 days were previously given to replace them with Russian ones. But due to the fact that Decree No. 1396, which contained this requirement, has lost force, there is currently no specific term for this procedure. So it is necessary to change, but there is no deadline for this exchange now.

If the driving license does not comply with the law, driving a vehicle with such a document is regarded as driving without a license. According to Art. 12.7 of the Code, the driver will be punished with a fine of 5 to 15 thousand rubles. So, the Russian VU is mandatory in many cases.

This is due to the fact that in Russia such a document does not have any legal significance. As I noted earlier, replacing the driving license of another country with a Russian license is the responsibility of a foreign citizen, provided that he plans to drive a car in Russia. The key point that determines whether a foreigner can obtain a permit in the Russian Federation is his current status.

Foreign national and international driver's licenses that do not comply with the requirements of international treaties of the Russian Federation in the field of road safety cannot be exchanged for Russian national and international driver's licenses.

According to the latest amendments to Federal Law dated December 10, 1995 N 196-FZ “On Road Safety,” foreigners engaged in business activities related to driving a car and hired drivers are not allowed to drive a vehicle without a Russian driver’s license (VU). Of course, the exception is transit cars.

In addition, it is permissible to replace a license with the distinctive signs of SU (USSR), issued before 01/01/92. Thus, replacing, for example, Kazakh rights with ours is also not a problem.

Passing a medical examination

How does the traffic police exam work?

Passing exams before obtaining a driver's license at the State Traffic Safety Inspectorate consists of several stages.
