The authorities decided to meet the drivers halfway and allowed even those who had installed gas in their cars to receive the necessary papers several years ago. At the same time, there is no difference in completing the registration procedure for them and those who apply to the traffic police on this issue for the first time. Such measures are associated with the general popularization of alternative fuels in the country.

Since 2009, Russia adopted an international regulation called “Technical Regulations for the Safety of Wheeled Vehicles,” or simply TR TS 018 2011, and after that it became possible to legalize an already installed LPG without its dismantling. In fact, the regulation came into force in 2015, but even then many car owners did not take this document seriously and did not register legally installed gas equipment. In this regard, car owners were given another deferment for another year and a half, so that everyone could go through the registration procedure for installed additional equipment, including gas equipment.

The term “legalization of HBO in the traffic police” appeared after a conference of members of the SPGO association in the fall of 2021. It was then that it was decided that any gas equipment that was installed on the car before 2016 did not need to be dismantled. It is enough just to make a package of necessary documents for it and undergo the so-called legalization at the traffic police.

Procedure before installing gas equipment

Before you begin installing equipment on your vehicle, you must obtain permission to do so. The procedure for registering HBO with the traffic police in 2021 is as follows:

1Pass a preliminary technical examination.

Installation of gas equipment with registration in the traffic police requires two checks: before and after installation.

How often should you check your gas pump?

In 2011, Commission decision No. 877 was made, as amended on June 21, 2019, on the adoption of the Technical Regulations of the Customs Union. The document covers the issues of safe operation of cars, which states that LPG tests are carried out at the same frequency as for other gas cylinders.

1Install the gas equipment at a certified car service center and receive a conclusion, as well as copies of certificates for the installed equipment.

2Pass a structural safety inspection and receive a diagnostic card.

3Collect a package of documents and contact the traffic police to obtain a “Certificate of Compliance of the vehicle with changes made to its design.”

Registration of gas installation on a car with the traffic police is impossible without this certificate.
