How to recover a lost car number? How much does it cost and what is the penalty for loss?

When may it be necessary to change a vehicle's license plate number?

There are many situations in which a driver may need to change his license plate number. In this case, it is necessary to distinguish between 2 main groups of reasons, depending on which the process of replacing the state number will differ:

  • The driver still had the license plate, but it was damaged. License plates are a metal plate that is subject to corrosion and physical impact. If the car is not used for a long time and is parked on the street, over time rust may appear on the license plates, which will ruin their appearance, and the letters and numbers will become unreadable. In such situations, the driver needs to restore the license plates.
  • The vehicle's license plate has been stolen or lost. If the car's registration plates have been stolen, they cannot be restored. In such a situation, the driver will be subject to a procedure for replacing the car number plates and registration certificate.

Important: If the state license plate has been damaged, but the driver still has it, you can contact commercial organizations that restore the license plates. Such companies are certified by the State Traffic Safety Inspectorate, and they have the right to produce license plates and issue them to owners upon application and provision of the required package of documents. Even if the number plates are replaced by a private company, the driver will need to give a set of numbers, which the company will then transfer to the traffic police.

When to duplicate

So, in what situations is it necessary to make duplicate license plates for a car?

  1. Unreadable license plate . There are a lot of situations when this can happen: chips from small pebbles, damage in an accident, intentional damage, etc.
  2. Old plates on the car . When selling a vehicle, owners often want to keep the old number. At the same time, they need to go through the procedure of re-registration of the vehicle and receive new license plates for the car they are selling, and leave theirs for storage. If the condition of the old license plates is not the most satisfactory, then it may be necessary to create duplicates of them.
  3. Long trip . When traveling abroad or on a long trip to another region, many motorists recommend taking with them, in addition to a complete list of documents for the vehicle and all the necessary equipment, such as a fire extinguisher, cable, compressor, spare wheel and much more, a set of spare plates - duplicates. This is necessary so that if one of the numbers along the way is suddenly lost, stolen or damaged, you can safely replace it with a duplicate and move on without worrying about a fine or any other problems.
  4. Number missing . This point is quite controversial and dangerous. It’s one thing if the owner is absolutely sure that the problem was in a poorly secured number and it was simply lost along the way. At the same time, it is possible to issue a duplicate of one license plate, which will significantly save costs.

You should be especially careful in situations where numbers are missing. If they were stolen, then you need to contact the traffic police in order to re-register your vehicle after contacting the police with a statement of theft. This is necessary in order to protect yourself from further possible problems.

Fraudsters can often use stolen license plates on other vehicles and, at best, violate traffic regulations. In this case, fines will be sent to the name of the affected car owner. In the worst case, stolen license plates can be used on a car that is involved in a criminal case. Then the former owner will be charged , and proving his innocence can cost a lot of time, money, and nerves.

If a driver discovers missing license plates on his car in the morning, but does not remember whether they were there in the evening or were lost on the way home, then it is better to contact the police to report the theft.

You should not neglect contacting the traffic police in situations that raise suspicion and concern about the loss of license plates.

How to restore damaged license plates to the traffic police

When there is no opportunity or desire to contact a commercial organization to replace damaged vehicle license plates, you must submit a corresponding application to the traffic police. To replace spoiled or damaged license plates, the traffic police department at the place of registration of the car must provide:

  1. Two license plates that need to be replaced. Even if one license plate is damaged, you will need to present a complete set to the traffic police for replacement;
  2. Receipt for payment for the issue of a new state number, the cost of the service is 2000 rubles;
  3. Documents for the car: registration certificate, OSAGO, PTS;
  4. Car owner's passport;
  5. Completed application for changing numbers.

Please note: the procedure for replacing a damaged license plate at the State Traffic Safety Inspectorate can be performed by a representative of the car owner by proxy.

When all the necessary documents have been submitted along with the application, you will only have to wait for the new numbers to be produced.

Where can you recover in 2021?

Today there are 2 possibilities to do this, which differ fundamentally in the fact of replacing the alphanumeric designations of the lost license plate, the cost and duration of the procedure.

So, there are 2 authorities that can help you solve the problem if you have lost your car number:

  1. Traffic police - here you can get new numbers, but only both and only with different symbols,
  2. point of production of the registration mark - essentially here you receive a duplicate of the registration mark after loss.

You can contact any of them. But it must be understood in the context of where you want to recover lost PGR that both bodies provide vastly different procedures.

  • If at the point of manufacture you simply receive a new piece of iron with the same alphanumeric designation, and you can replace either one sign or both,
  • then at the traffic police you will only receive a complete re-registration of the car with the receipt of new license plates with new numbers and letters, as well as changes to the title and the issuance of a new registration certificate.

You can find a complete list of production points on the official website of the traffic police. Select your city in the drop-down list, and the map and list below will show all such points in your city.

This is what the map looks like using Moscow as an example:

Points for restoring a license plate by issuing a duplicate

If you plan to contact the traffic police with a lost registration plate, then you need the registration department of the inspectorate. You can also find a list of these on the traffic police website.

What is the price?

According to the 2 different possibilities to restore a lost number, the cost of these procedures is also noticeably different.

Making a duplicate of a lost state number is a cheaper service. But prices are set freely by production points. On average, they range from 600 to 1,500 rubles for one GRZ - front or rear.

But re-registration of a car in order to assign new license plates, if you have lost even one, costs a fixed price in the state-established tariff in the form of payment of state duties:

  • 2,000 rubles for issuing new license plates to replace those you lost (1,500 if we are talking about a motorcycle or a car trailer),
  • 500 rubles for issuing a new STS (the old one is invalid, since it contains old license plate numbers),
  • 350 rubles for changes to the PTS (or 800 for issuing a duplicate passport if the old one runs out of space).

What documents are required?

When contacting the traffic police, it is recommended to immediately collect all the paperwork for the vehicle. This will help avoid repeated downtime in queues. The list of documentation includes:

  • passport of a citizen of the Russian Federation (for legal entities, an authorized representative of the organization);
  • certificate of registration (CTC);
  • MTPL or CASCO insurance policy;
  • vehicle passport (PTS);
  • registration plates (if any);
  • an application filled out according to the sample;
  • receipts for payment of state fees.

For legal entities, you will also need to submit a power of attorney to receive a duplicate license plate number and payment orders certified by the organization’s seal. Today, when replacing license plates, it is not necessary to check the engine and chassis. This speeds up the process significantly.

If you lost both numbers

Let's consider the procedure for a vehicle owner if he loses both license plates of his car.

Is it necessary to contact the traffic police?

As soon as it is discovered that the car does not have license plates, you should immediately go to the traffic police department where the vehicle was registered. It is in such a department that confirmation of the fact of seizure of license plates will be issued, after which they are considered lost.

How to write an application

When contacting the authorized body at the place of registration of the vehicle, a statement is drawn up stating that the license plates have been lost. This document reflects the reason - “under unclear circumstances.”

Otherwise, there may be such an option - the numbers will not be issued, as an investigation into the loss will begin.

The application also needs to make a note that your license plates are not currently in the traffic police department.

When writing an application, you should rely on the sample that is available in every department of the government agency. The data is exactly as shown in the examples.

It is possible to write an application either by hand or on a PC. Be sure to sign.

What documents are needed

When carrying out the re-registration procedure, the following documents are required:

  1. Civil identity card (passport) or document form 2P. A photograph is required in such a document. Other documents will not be suitable.
  2. If your place of registration is temporary, a certificate from your place of residence is provided.
  3. Certificate confirming the registration of the vehicle.
  4. PTS, which comes complete with other transport documents. They provide a copy of it. Sometimes traffic police officers require you to submit such a document, having first certified it by a notary.
  5. Insurance.
  6. A coupon confirming the passage of a state technical inspection.
  7. Driver license.
  8. Document on temporary registration (if any).
  9. Power of attorney to drive transport (if any).

The process lasts about 3 days. In some cases, it is necessary to undergo an unscheduled technical inspection.

If you lose a license plate from a vehicle, but contact the traffic police department in a timely manner, MREO employees do not have the right to demand additional documents or refuse to issue new license plates.

If such actions occur, be sure to request written explanations. In the future, such a document can become evidence that you are right when considering a claim in court.

Decor

After submitting the application and the above documents, the numbers will be excluded from the registration database of the authorized body. In the documentation, the traffic police officer will make a note that the owner of the car has lost the signs.

The further process does not take much of your time. Reconciliation is being carried out. It is carried out to check the technical condition of the car, checking engine signs with registration documentation, which is stored in the traffic police department.

In any case, you will have to pay the assigned fine. Provide proof of payment by presenting proof of identity.

Those persons who are not the owners of the car, that is, drive by proxy, also present documents that make it possible to drive the vehicle. This is a power of attorney or other document with legal force.

When the procedure is completed, the driver will receive an application form containing all the details - under what circumstances the license plates were lost.

After receiving new numbers, the inspection coupons are changed. Often, traffic police representatives refuse to provide new license plates. In this case, you need to clarify the reason for your refusal.

The demands made by employees of the authorized body must be confirmed in writing.

It is then possible to appeal such a decision to a higher authority or to a court. To do this, appropriate certificates are submitted that will confirm the fact of refusal to issue numbers.

Remember that when you contact a law enforcement agency or an insurance company without delay, you will be protected from unnecessary problems. After all, you can never say at what moment and where your numbers will “pop up”.

At the traffic police station, a long queue is a common occurrence. Therefore, call in advance and find out the branch's opening hours. It is best to come to the office during the middle of the week. After all, at the beginning and end of the week there are larger crowds of people.

Getting new numbers

New vehicle license plates are issued after all documents, an application have been submitted and the state fee has been paid. The amount of state duty is 2.5 thousand rubles.

At the same time, a corresponding entry is made in the vehicle passport and a copy of the vehicle registration certificate is provided.

The reason why the duplicate was issued is also indicated. This entry is made in the “special notes” section.

Next, the driver will have to replace the technical inspection ticket. Typically this procedure is automatic. That is, you are not required to submit new documents.

Procedure for replacing numbers

To the police (in case of theft).

  1. We file a report about the theft of numbers. Usually to the department of internal affairs at the place of residence. The officer on duty registers the application in a journal and gives us a notification about it.
  2. We tell the investigator in detail about the theft. A criminal case will be initiated within the next 10 days.
  3. We add the received notification to the prepared package of necessary documents and go to the traffic police.

We go to the insurance company and make changes to the MTPL and CASCO policies. For free.

Actions to take when license plates are stolen

It is not recommended to hide the fact of the theft of license plates and order the production of their duplicate for the reasons stated above. The owner of the car should contact the State Traffic Inspectorate and write a statement about the theft of registration plates. After this, the process of replacing them will begin, and the old ones will be entered into the search database. Thus, the owner will protect himself if a car with stolen license plates becomes involved in a criminal case.

Package of documents for individuals:

  • PTS;
  • passport of the owner of the vehicle or the person representing him (a power of attorney will also be required);
  • STS;
  • insurance policy;
  • a certificate from law enforcement agencies, which confirms the filing of an application by the car owner regarding the theft of license plates.

Legal entities must provide to the traffic police:

  • passport of an authorized person authorized by the company to deal with this issue;
  • insurance policy;
  • power of attorney to obtain numbers;
  • leasing agreement (original/copy) – if necessary.

The process of replacing state signs step by step:

  1. Filing a report of sign theft to the police. In this case, the applicant is given a corresponding certificate. You need to contact the local department of the department, where you should provide all the details of what happened to the inspector. A criminal case will be initiated within 10 days.
  2. Providing documents (including a police certificate) to the State Traffic Inspectorate and filling out an application form for replacing license plates.
  3. Inspection of the vehicle.
  4. Payment of fees and submission of receipts to the traffic police.
  5. Obtaining new registration plates, STS and PTS (the corresponding mark is placed in the passport).
  6. Making changes to CASCO, OSAGO. To do this, you need to contact the insurance company that issued the policy. Corrections are made to the document free of charge.

Step-by-step instruction

Replacing the number plate on a car is carried out without presenting it for inspection. To update registration data, duplicating lost and unusable GRZ on a car, you need to:

  1. Write an application to the registration and examination department (REO) of the traffic police. You can fill out the form through the single portal “State Services” (EPGU).
  2. When visiting the inspection in person, pay state fees, prepare the necessary papers and wait in line.
  3. At the EPGU, you need to select a REO at an address convenient for the visit, the time and date of the trip, then send an electronic application and pay the required fees.
  4. After receiving the application on the government services website, come to the traffic police department at the appointed time.
  5. Get documents and new signs.
  6. Inform the insurance company.

Issuance of plates with state numbers

Plates with license plates will be issued at a special point if the application does not indicate that they need to be picked up at the inspection.

Getting a new random number

You can change the number plate on your car to another one in a similar manner to the instructions outlined above.

The car owner can exercise the right to receive a new alphanumeric combination an unlimited number of times.

Buying a license plate from another car

The cost of changing a license plate on a car through such a purchase can be quite high. Steps need to be taken:

  1. Purchase a vehicle with the required individual signs and hand over the plates for safekeeping at the REO.
  2. Receive new gas seals for the purchased car.
  3. Replace the plates on your car with the saved ones and sell the purchased car.

Scheme for purchasing a license plate from another car

Or:

  1. “Sell” your own vehicle to the owner of a prestigious combination.
  2. Save his license plate number.
  3. Install the stored plates on the “sold” vehicle and “buy back” your iron horse.

Using this move is risky if the “buyer” is not a friend or good acquaintance.

Exchange numbers between two machines

You can change license plates on a car without changing the owner when he owns several vehicles. Required:

  1. Remove the hydraulic seal of one of the two cars for storage.
  2. Get a random license plate number for this car.
  3. Hang the saved signs on the second car.

Alphanumeric combinations also change on vehicles belonging to different owners:

  1. The owners carry out purchase and sale transactions with each other.
  2. Retain vehicle identification marks.
  3. Cars are registered with different license plates.
  4. The car is returned and the saved plates are installed.

It costs a lot to replace license plates on a car, and the speed of operations depends on the queues at the State Traffic Inspectorate.

Through "State Services"

You can save on the portal by paying with a bank card, mobile phone or e-wallet.

  1. Fill out an application for EPGU.
  2. Click on the "Pay" button when the invoice is issued.

When paying through Gosuslugi, the cost will be 30% lower than the price of replacing a license plate on a car at the traffic police. The discount is valid until January 1, 2021.

Contact via the Internet and directly

Plates for cars can be ordered in two ways:

  • Through the Internet . Serious companies have websites on the Internet where it is possible to leave a request by immediately selecting the type of registration plate (with edging, flag, bold font, etc.). The car owner must send scans of his documents. To contact a company employee, you need to leave a phone number and email address.

Payment is transferred to the company account from a bank card or transferred at the office during a personal visit to a courier who will bring ready-made license plates. The order is also sent by mail if the client wishes.

  • Appearing at the company in person. The order and wishes regarding the appearance of the plate and the number of duplicates are recorded in the company documents. The car owner must present his papers, the same as in the first case. The method of obtaining numbers is chosen by him. He can pick them up himself or have them delivered to his home by mail or courier.

  • PTS - 800 rubles;
  • Vehicle registration certificate - 500 rubles;

  • GRZ of Transit vehicles on a metal base, for cars - 1600 rubles; on a metal base, for motorcycles and trailers - 800 rubles; on paper - 200 rubles.

Thus, the state fee for registration (with a change or issue of a number) will be:

  • for a car - 2850 rubles;
  • for a motorcycle, trailer - 1850 rubles.

The state fee for re-registration of a vehicle while retaining the license plate from the previous owner will cost 850 rubles.

Contacting the traffic police department

If a driver has lost his license plate, this can result in serious problems for him.
To avoid them, you must contact the traffic police immediately after the loss is discovered. Replacement of numbers takes place according to the standard scheme. The owner of the vehicle must write a statement about the loss of the car number and wait until new numbers are produced. Traffic police officers will check whether the license plates have been confiscated from the car owner for committing an offense. If the driver did not violate anything and the signs were not confiscated, they will be restored.

With the loss of one state. number located in front or behind, there are legal reasons not to come to the inspection itself. The loss of two characters dictates the obligatory appearance. There the fact of loss is recorded and the process of returning the vehicle's license plates begins. Regardless of who was driving the car when the license plates were lost, it is the owner of the car who must come to the inspection.

I lost my car license plate - what should I do? Application for lost car number

It is necessary to collect the required package of documents when re-registering with the traffic police.

The owner of the car writes a statement by hand to the traffic police about the loss of license plates (or printed out on a printer). The departments usually have a sample compilation form. The reason column indicates “loss under unclear circumstances.” Otherwise, the state license will not be issued, but an investigation will begin. The form indicates that the signs were not seized by inspectors.

When re-registering with the traffic police, the following documents are presented:

  • Russian passport (form 2P is possible, but with a photo);
  • certificate of temporary registration (if there is a stamp of another permanent registration);
  • VU;
  • power of attorney (when the car is not personal);
  • STS and a copy of the PTS (sometimes notarization is required);
  • maintenance ticket;
  • receipt of payment of state duty;
  • insurance.

The vehicle is being inspected. The engines are compared with the data of the submitted papers.

According to the statement of the car owner, the lost GRZ are removed from the registry. the traffic police database, and a corresponding note about the loss is placed in the documents.

It is important to pay the state fee in the amount of 2.5 thousand rubles in advance.

To avoid long queues and crowds of people on the first and last days of the week, you should find out the office hours and come in the middle of the work week.

Refusal to issue new vehicle license plates is unlawful. It is worth requesting it in writing, indicating the basis. You can safely go to management or court with this paper.

The difference between replacing and duplicating license plates

There are fundamental differences between these two concepts. Duplicate is a copy of the old registration plates, replacement is the production and assignment of new numbers to the car, which entails the need to re-register and replace its passport.

Accordingly, the second procedure will be more expensive than the first, but in some cases it is the only correct solution.

In particular, if there is suspicion or conviction that old license plates have been stolen.

There is a high probability that the stolen signs will be installed on another car, and this can already create problems for the real owner.

Driving a vehicle with fake license plates is punishable by deprivation of rights for a period of 6-12 months, which is established in paragraph 4 of this article of the Code of Administrative Offences. Also, such actions may fall under the article of forgery of documents, and this is already a criminal offense and more serious sanctions - from a fine of up to 80 thousand rubles to imprisonment for up to 2 years (Part 1 of Article 326 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).

List of required documents

As already noted, only licensed organizations or individuals are authorized to produce duplicates, and the list of documents to be submitted depends on the status of the customer of the service.

In particular, for the most widespread category of car owners, individuals, this list is as follows:

  • a document certifying the owner of the car (VU or Russian Federation resident passport);
  • a document certifying completion of the vehicle registration procedure (STS);
  • vehicle passport;
  • if the original license plate is lost, a certificate of no criminal record may be required;
  • It is not necessary to provide your old registration plates, but you may be asked to do so;
  • It is also optional to provide an insurance policy;
  • if you drive the car by proxy, it also needs to be included in the list.

Now let’s list what documents are needed to produce a duplicate license plate for legal entities:

  • civil passport of a person who is a representative of the organization;
  • a document certifying completion of the vehicle registration procedure (STS);
  • vehicle passport;
  • insurance policy;
  • a notarized power of attorney issued to the person authorized to receive a duplicate;
  • payment orders (with the seals of the financial institution);
  • old license plates (if they were not lost/stolen);
  • optionally - the original or a copy of the contract if the car was purchased under leasing terms.

As you can see, the list of documents required for the production of duplicate license plates almost completely coincides with those for re-registration of a vehicle.

Methods for restoring license plates

You can obtain a duplicate of license plates in two ways: from the State Traffic Safety Inspectorate and from companies accredited by this department. The recovery procedure is generally similar for each option.

First way

To restore lost signs, the State Traffic Inspectorate requires a corresponding application from the car owner. After employees of the territorial office have checked that the license plates have not been confiscated by law enforcement officers, the procedure for their production and re-registration begins.

The list of required documents:

  • passport and driver's license of the owner of the car;
  • OSAGO policy;
  • STS/SOR;
  • PTS;

and also if available:

  • power of attorney for a car;
  • certificate of temporary registration.

The entire process of obtaining a duplicate takes three business days. In some cases, an unscheduled technical inspection is required. Number plates are issued after paying the state fee and making changes to the car passport (the document indicates the reason for issuing a copy of registration plates).

Second way

This is a faster method, but requires a careful approach to choosing a company. You must make sure you have a license to operate.

To check whether a certain organization has been accredited by the Ministry of Internal Affairs, you can go to the official website of the State Traffic Inspectorate, where the section “Manufacturers of license plates” contains a list of licensed manufacturers by region.

Registration plates are manufactured on special equipment using certain technologies that ensure that the finished products comply with the current state standard (they have the necessary degrees of protection, performance characteristics, and established appearance).

Obtaining a duplicate from such organizations requires a minimum package of documents (driver’s license, STS) and time. However, such a service may be somewhat more expensive than in the traffic police. If the number is stolen, a statement of refusal to initiate criminal proceedings is also provided.

Recovering lost transit numbers

In this case, the procedure for obtaining a duplicate does not differ from the above option and includes re-registration with the State Traffic Safety Inspectorate and provision of a package of documents. New signs of the same meaning are issued.

Unofficial way

First, let's determine what exactly should not be done if you lose your numbers.

Loss of license plates is difficult to identify immediately after the incident. Typically, drivers discover that there are no signs on the car after returning home.

The reasons for the loss of numbers can be different:

  • due to fast driving;
  • due to the poor quality of roads;
  • with poor fastening;
  • in case of theft.

When the owner of the vehicle discovers the absence of signs, he decides to make a duplicate of them. Not many people turn to the authorized body, but rather contact companies that offer dubious services.

The problem will really be solved quickly. But there will still be a risk that the lost numbers will be used by attackers. Also, driving a vehicle with duplicate license plates is an offense for which legal acts establish liability.

If you are convinced that the numbers were not stolen, but simply lost, you do not need to write a statement to the police. Such an application will become the basis for initiating a criminal case.

And according to Order of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation No. 59 of January 27, 2003, traffic police officers cannot issue registration plates until the investigation is completed.

Yes, and numbers are issued only when the presented ones are disposed of.

Is there a fine for losing license plates?

This is often the first question drivers ask in such situations. The loss of a state sign means a technical malfunction of the car, in the presence of which its operation is prohibited. This is stated in the traffic rules, in particular in paragraph 2.3.1.

Recommended: Where is the fuse for the power windows located?

There is no article in Russian legislation that imposes any sanctions for the loss of vehicle registration plates.

But participation in traffic of a car without one is already punishable. Thus, Article 12.2 of the Code of Administrative Offenses states that for installing a license plate in a place not intended for this purpose, driving a vehicle without one, or if there is damage, dirt, etc. on them, which makes their identification difficult, the car owner is punished with a fine of 5 thousand rubles. The driver may also be deprived of his license for 1-3 months.

Please note that the sanctions provided for in this article apply both for the loss of both numbers, and for the absence of only one of them.

Is it possible to make duplicate numbers without documents?

The company that received a license from the traffic police will refuse duplicates of lost license plates without documents. After all, a customer who does not present the paper may require a registration plate to be made for him in order to commit a crime. In such a situation, it cannot be ruled out that the symbol does not belong to his machine at all. And when everything is discovered, the company will have to answer for violating the regulations on making duplicates. At a minimum, she may lose her license from the traffic police.

But license plates without a flag will be produced by a company legally engaged in this business. After all, the tricolor is not a mandatory element of the sign. GOST 50577-93 says that this is an additional part of the license plate.

Watch this video about how state government is made. car numbers:

What will happen to the old number?

If you submit an application to the traffic police to change registration plates due to loss, then you will be assigned new alphanumeric values of the number. But the old ones, according to the regulations, must be put on the wanted list. But no, they will not be specifically looked for, raising the investigative committees and other services - they will simply become invalid, and if you find them (whether it is the front license plate, the rear one or both) and hand it over to the department, they must be disposed of.

Meanwhile, in 2021, unfortunately, it is quite likely that you have already changed your license plates, and fines will continue to come under the old ones - this is if someone suddenly finds your lost license plate, attaches it to themselves and drives over the limit under auto-fixation cameras . Despite the announcement of registration plates on the wanted list, the GIMP AIS system tends to lag and the data is not updated on time. Such fines should be appealed by attaching a copy of the registration certificate with new numbers and a copy of the application to the traffic police to change the license plates.

But when making a duplicate, none of those in power will know that you have lost the number, so the situation described above is also real, but appealing such a fine is more difficult - you will have to prove the loss and, with repeated “letters of happiness,” still change the license plates to others.

Losing your State Number: what not to do?

The main problem is that a missing number is not always immediately detected. We are not necessarily talking about theft; the reason for the disappearance can be poor quality roads, fast driving and insufficiently reliable fixation.

But in some cases, it is not possible to establish why this happened with one hundred percent probability.

This means that the choice to solve the problem in favor of making a duplicate is questionable.

Even if the signs are actually lost while driving, it cannot be guaranteed that they will not be used by someone who accidentally discovers them and is not a law-abiding person.

At the end of 2013, amendments were made to the legislative framework, according to which specialized companies received permission to produce license plates. Soon, in addition to reliable organizations, dubious companies also appeared.

You should not contact them, no matter how tempting their offers may be, as there is a risk of receiving license plates that do not meet current standards.

Many experienced drivers advise not to indicate the theft of state signs in the statement, but to write “due to loss” as the reason. But the owner of the vehicle must understand that when committing illegal actions involving a double car, law enforcement agencies will first turn to him.

Changing vehicle registration details

There is another way to update car license plates - changing registration data. The essence of the procedure is that you go to the traffic police and receive new numbers.

Disadvantages of this method:

  • high price. State duties in this case will amount to 2,850 rubles.;
  • you irretrievably lose your old car number (if for some reason you value it, it is better to use the production of duplicates).

Thus, depending on the degree of damage to the numbers, you can use one of the following methods:

  • let it be as it is;
  • tint the numbers;
  • make duplicates;
  • change registration data.

Loss of transit numbers

Unlike regular license plates, transit registration plates are valid for only 20 days, so if transit plates are lost, it is much easier not to restore them, but to order new registration plates. In terms of finances, to some extent, it will be cheaper, and not so much time will be spent.
Despite the fact that many lost car license plates are victims of circumstances or hooligans, the absence of an important plate on a car should not be taken lightly. It is much easier to immediately try to resolve all the issues, so that later you do not receive fines for the lack of identification marks or for the actions of other people who used the numbers registered in your name at the traffic police.
