All the intricacies of CASCO insurance: basic conditions and requirements for payments for damage caused to a car

In Russia there is voluntary car insurance called CASCO. It is available to every car enthusiast, but the price will vary depending on the type, cost and age of the vehicle. The policy allows you to protect your car from troubles on the road or while parked.

If your car is stolen, the insurance company will return its value; if you get into an accident, the driver will be able to repair his car under CASCO even if he himself was the culprit of the accident; if a stone on the road breaks a headlight, the owner will also have the opportunity to repair the car under CASCO. This is, at first glance, a lifesaver policy. We will figure out how things really stand with CASCO payments by analyzing the contract provided to clients.

How to save on CASCO

  1. FRANCHISE
    Registration of CASCO with franchise significantly reduces the cost policy: with it, car insurance under CASCO only compensates for significant damage.

    The deductible is set at a fixed amount in rubles or as a percentage of the insured amount. Learn more about the franchise.

    In case of an insured event, the payment is formed from the amount of damage minus the amount of the deductible.

  2. HISTORY OF OSAGO
    The absence of insured events due to your fault under previous MTPL policies gives you the right to a discount under the CASCO insurance policy. Its cost takes into account your break-even MTPL insurance history from RSA.

2nd paymentbalance within 3 monthsat least 30% within 3 months

Payments are made strictly according to schedule, even if an insured event occurs. If you are late with your next AUTOCASCO payment, you will need to re-present a clean car for inspection. Insurance will resume after the next payment and inspection of the car.

How to apply correctly?

As experts say, the struggle for insurance payment often begins much earlier than the occurrence of an insured event - even at the stage of choosing an insurance company. If you have already decided on the company from which you want to obtain a policy, you will have to talk to an insurance agent. It is he who will thoroughly explain the insurance rules and, most importantly, the cost of the policy.

To calculate insurance risks, insurers use specialized programs; as a result, they give the cost of the policy in accordance with the client’s requests, but the calculation is approximate.

CASCO is issued only upon provision of a number of documents, do not forget to take them with you:

  • passport of a citizen of the Russian Federation or other document confirming identity;
  • vehicle passport;
  • vehicle registration certificate;
  • contract of sale;
  • customs documents (if relevant).

If the client agrees to the conditions, he signs an application for a policy and provides the vehicle to the insurer for inspection - this can be carried out either immediately or on a separately appointed day.

After analyzing the car, the insurance company announces the final terms of the policy and provides the client with a contract to sign. On its basis, a policy is issued and the Russian is the happy owner of an insured car.

What does the Rosgosstrakh CASCO policy protect against?

Examples of insurance events that CASCO protects against:

  1. Road traffic accident (RTA).
  2. Impact (impact) on stationary or moving objects (structures, obstacles, animals, birds).
  3. Any objects falling on the car (trees, snow, ice, etc.).
  4. The release of gravel, stones and other objects from under the wheels of vehicles and subsequent damage.
  5. Car falling into water.
  6. Disaster.
  7. Fire (including as a result of an accident).
  8. Explosion.
  9. Illegal actions of third parties.

The CASCO policy of PJSC IC "Rosgosstrakh" also protects against the risk of loss of a car and additional equipment as a result of theft, robbery or robbery.

More detailed information about all insurance risks and insurance payments can be found in the CASCO Insurance Rules.

Why do you need a franchise?

The deductible is a preferential insurance condition. Thanks to it, you can significantly reduce your costs for purchasing a CASCO policy.

There are two types of CASCO franchise:

  • unconditional;
  • conditional.

An unconditional franchise is a certain amount specified in the insurance contract, within which the insurance company client is independently responsible for any damage to the car. In most cases, insurers are limited to an amount of 15-30 thousand rubles.

If an insured event occurs and the amount of damage exceeds the amount agreed upon in the contract, the company pays compensation.

This franchise will be optimal in the following case:

  • if a CASCO policy is purchased by an experienced driver who gets into an accident no more than once a year;
  • the car is stored in a paid parking lot;
  • the amount of the discount for the franchise is greater than the value of the franchise.

An important condition of an unconditional franchise is that the amount of compensation is paid minus the amount specified in the contract.

A conditional franchise is very similar to an unconditional franchise. The insurance conditions also stipulate a certain amount within which the policyholder independently compensates for his losses.

But if this limit is exceeded, compensation for all damage is paid, without any deductions. An unconditional deductible sometimes allows you to save up to 15% of the cost of a CASCO policy.

Conditional – no more than 5%. You must choose any specific option based on your financial capabilities, as well as other factors - the cost of the car, operating conditions, storage.

Insurance payments under CASCO

Insured events, depending on the terms of the concluded contract, may include partial damage, theft, complete destruction, and so on.

Methods of compensation for damage under CASCO

There are two ways to compensate for damages under CASCO after an accident:

  • repair of a damaged vehicle at a service station;
  • cash payment to the owner of the damaged vehicle.

Correct registration of an insured event
In order to receive insurance payments under CASCO in case of an accident, you must comply with all the rules for registering an insured event.

At the scene of the incident . Immediately after an accident, you need to call law enforcement officers in cases where payment without police certificates is not provided for in the insurance contract. Under no circumstances should the vehicle be moved. It is also undesirable to touch it after an accident, so as not to accidentally remove characteristic damage. Do not try to negotiate with your opponent on your own. Please read the protocol carefully before signing it. If the section of the road on which the accident occurred falls within the field of view of surveillance cameras, this should be noted in the protocol indicating the model and number of the camera.

After the incident . After completing all the documents, contact a representative of your insurance company and report the occurrence of an insured event. Then collect a package of documents about this incident and send it to the insurer. You will also need to bring the car for inspection and recording of damage by a representative of the insurance company. When you submit all the documents to the insurer, specify the registration date, number and time frame within which your case will be considered.

What is the amount of insurance payments for CASCO calculated from?

Insurance option . There is partial (for damage) and full (for damage and theft) insurance. CASCO insurance against damage will cost much less - the cost of a policy under such a program can be 20–40% lower than the price of a full insurance policy.

Sum insured . Reducible (aggregate) and irreducible (non-aggregate). When choosing an aggregate amount, you should take into account that each subsequent insurance payment will reduce the amount of the entire insured amount. The irreducible sum insured will not change after the car is repaired.

Wear . Payments can be made either taking this factor into account or without it. If the contract states that the payment amount will be calculated taking into account wear and tear, then the car owner needs to remember that the more wear and tear, the less the insurance payment will ultimately be.

What determines the price of a CASCO policy?

Driver's experience and age . The younger the driver and the shorter his experience, the more expensive the CASCO insurance policy will cost him.

Insurance period . The shorter the validity period of the insurance policy, the more expensive it will be each month if recalculated. Therefore, for many motorists, it is more profitable to take out insurance for a long period of time.

Installment payment . Installment plans may increase the cost of the CASCO policy. This is a popular service, but since it involves certain risks, installment policies will be more expensive than those that provide for a one-time payment of the insurance premium.

Insurance history . If the vehicle owner has a break-even insurance history under CASCO or OSAGO, then the price of the policy will be lower.

Availability of an anti-theft system . When signing the contract, you must indicate whether the car has an anti-theft system installed. If yes, then you need to indicate the model name and manufacturer. The more reliable the system, the cheaper the policy will cost you.

Coverage provided for in the contract . If you want to protect your car to the maximum, and when purchasing a policy you specify that you require maximum coverage (theft, damage in all cases, etc.), then insurance will cost more. But at the same time, compensation under CASCO will fully cover your costs.

Availability of a franchise . If, when purchasing a policy, you decide to include a deductible in it, then in the end it will cost you less. But if an accident occurs, the final payment will be equal to the amount of damage minus the amount of the deductible.

If the insurance company refuses an application for CASCO, there are several reasons for this. Perhaps the policyholders misunderstood the terms of the contract, began to act independently with the best intentions - all this often leads to a negative result. Why might an insurance company refuse to pay?

Reasons for refusal to pay under CASCO

Traffic violation . A number of insurance contracts may stipulate that an accident that occurred due to the fault of the insured person is not an insured event. Such traffic accidents may include those that occurred due to significant speeding, driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, driving through a red light, crossing a double solid line and driving into oncoming traffic. According to traffic regulations, drivers are allowed to enter the road only in a working car.

Incorrect actions in the event of an insured event . It often happens that people lose the opportunity to receive insurance payments under CASCO due to a number of errors. Below are the most common ones.

  • Independent full or partial vehicle repair . Many car enthusiasts prefer to repair their car themselves so as not to drive a broken car. They then provide the insurance company with receipts or photographs of the repaired damage and believe that such measures are sufficient. But this is not true: when examining the car, the expert will not be able to assess the extent of damage. As a result, payment will be denied. Therefore, do not repair the car yourself until an appraisal has been carried out by a representative of the insurance company.
  • Failure to contact the police in a timely manner . You may not receive compensation for damage under CASCO if you do not report damage to the car immediately after it is discovered. If you leave the scene of the incident, the police will not be able to reconstruct the course of events and the process of damage. Consequently, the protocol will not reflect the reason for their occurrence. As a result, your insurance claim will most likely be denied. That is why it is necessary to call law enforcement officials immediately after an accident or detection of damage to a car.

Basic insurance conditions

Car insurance conditions are standard. Unless the client wishes to make any changes to them. The main conditions include insurance risks, as well as the amount of compensation payments.

But no less important are situations that allow the insurance company, on absolutely legal grounds, to refuse to pay its client monetary compensation upon the occurrence of an insured event.

This is possible under the following conditions:

  • the occurrence of the insured event was deliberately provoked by the policyholder himself, members of his family, or another person entitled to drive this car;
  • fire safety rules were not followed; any substances dangerous from the point of view of fire were transported;
  • the vehicle was driven by a driver under the influence of alcohol, drugs or other substances that impair coordination and slow reaction;
  • damage caused by radiation - in any of its manifestations;
  • damage or complete destruction of the car occurred as a result of a terrorist act or hostilities, popular riots, or arrest by court order.

Only in cases not included in the list indicated above is it possible to receive monetary compensation.

The main insurance conditions include limits on cash payments. Their size depends on the type of pole (MTPL or CASCO), as well as the date of its purchase.

Civil liability insurance to other road users has its own limits of payments, fixed at the legislative level.

In the case of CASCO, everything is somewhat more complicated. Each insurance company has its own rates. That is why you should carefully read the terms of the contract before signing it.

Despite some individualism, CASCO policies cannot be sold under conditions that infringe on the rights of policyholders.

Since this is contrary to current legislation, serious fines are imposed for this. This is what is a limiting factor for insurance companies when setting insurance conditions.

Conditions in different insurance companies

In order to increase the attractiveness and accessibility of their product, insurers offer clients to purchase CASCO policies in installments. This payment method is provided after making a certain amount as a down payment - usually up to 50% of the total price. The amount of the fee depends on the specific company and the size of the service package.

Discount on insurance

It is possible to issue a CASCO policy in installments for your own car or purchased on credit. In the second case, the insurance amount is included in the loan payment. However, company employees first check the client’s income to see if he can make the payment in a timely manner to pay off the remaining debt. Some insurers offer installment payments only to car owners who bought a car on credit.

There are several methods or debt repayment schedules:

  1. 50 x 50 – used quite often. The client pays the first half of the policy cost immediately after concluding the contract, the second - during the billing period, which ranges from 2 to 6 months.
  2. Divide the amount into parts - in proportions 30-40-30 or 40-30-20-10. The debt repayment period may take up to a year.
  3. Depending on the specific situation.

Many drivers are interested in what kind of damage can be compensated without certificates if they take out a CASCO premium policy with Ingosstrakh. Insurance is paid once to owners of the Premium and Optimal packages when the following are damaged:

  • front or rear view mirrors;
  • front or rear lights;
  • paintwork on the hood;
  • windshields and side windows;
  • satellite antenna.

Once again about important details

It is necessary to start: by determining the most important conditions for the policyholder and the insured amount. There are two options – aggregate and non-aggregate insurance. For the policyholder, non-aggregate insurance is more profitable, since even in cases of several accidents, the benefit from such insurance will be maximum. The amount of payments is not reduced by the compensation paid, as in aggregate insurance. However, the advantage of aggregate insurance is the lower cost of the policy. The next step is to select a refund option. Different insurance companies have different occupancy rates, but are essentially the same:

  • Payments of compensation based on independent expert calculations
  • repair at a service station of an official dealer for a car under warranty
  • repairs at an authorized dealer's service station for cars with an expired warranty
  • repair at a service station at the choice of the policyholder

In the latter, the policyholder himself pays for repairs at the selected car service center, and then submits an invoice to the insurance company for the repair work performed. It is also necessary to take into account that some insurance companies have contracts with a large number of service stations, so the car will be repaired quickly, while others have few such contracts and repairs can take a long time.

Requirements for storing a car with comprehensive insurance

When concluding a contract, insurance companies most often present a number of conditions to motorists. For example, there may be a requirement to store a car in a secure parking lot at night. If a car is stolen from an unguarded parking lot at night, the company will either not pay the money at all or will not pay the full amount.

Requirements may also relate to the installation of anti-theft devices on the vehicle. If your car is not equipped with an anti-theft system, most likely, the risk of “theft” will not be included in your comprehensive insurance contract
. Payments of insurance compensation for comprehensive insurance
= The amount for which the car will be insured is the market value of the car (sum insured).
This amount must be set in the same currency in which you will pay for the comprehensive insurance agreement
: rubles, US dollars or euros.

There are a large number of comprehensive insurance conditions, which largely determine the cost of each specific contract. The insurer may offer a choice of the following payment options:

  • Payment of damage in a sum of money calculated by representatives of the insurer. Damage is paid within the insured amount.
  • Referral for repairs to the insurer's service station.

Depending on the terms of the contract, the insurer may pay the cost of new parts or make a payment taking into account wear and tear. Each company sets its own depreciation standards, so this rate should be clarified in advance (as well as the mechanism for calculating the amount of depreciation by the insurer) and fixed in the contract.

Work carried out to replace parts in a car must always be paid for in full by the insurance company, regardless of the terms of payment of insurance compensation.

What is not an insured event

For the program to start working, an insured event must occur. Legislatively, there are a number of factors that correspond to the type of damage, but at the same time, money is not paid for them. They are worth considering separately.

Cases of theft

  • theft of the radio or its damage;
  • theft of a license plate, as well as its damage;
  • loss or theft of additional equipment located outside the vehicle;
  • theft of a car with open doors, windows and deactivated alarm;
  • theft of a vehicle with documents, ignition keys, alarm key fobs.

No harm to the car itself

  • pinpoint damage to the paintwork, these include small scratches and chips;
  • damage to the tire, decorative cap;
  • theft of any type, unless the vehicle is involved;

Malfunctions

  • breakdown of parts of components and assemblies;
  • identification of manufacturing defects;
  • electrical equipment malfunction;
  • failure of the brake system.

External factors

  • fraud or extortion;
  • exposure to a nuclear explosion or radiation;
  • hostilities;
  • non-return from leasing or rental.

Negligence of the policyholder

It is this point that is very important to consider when studying what is included in CASCO insurance.

  1. Using a vehicle outside the insurance territory.
  2. When using fire to heat a car or engine.
  3. Damage caused by the transportation of dangerous goods, unless we are talking about special equipment.
  4. Using the car in racing, testing, competition or learning to drive.
  5. Damage resulting from loading or transportation by other means.
  6. Careless handling of fire or cigarettes, which resulted in damage to the interior.
  7. Causing intentional damage by both the driver and passengers.
  8. Driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
  9. Transfer of a vehicle to a third party who is not included in the policy, does not have a driver’s license of the appropriate category, and drives the car illegally (without the appropriate documents).
  10. When leaving the scene of an accident.

How is insurance obtained for a car loan?

It is almost impossible to get a car loan without a CASCO policy. If the bank does not have a list of partners with whom it is ready to cooperate, then the client has the right to contact any company. When taking out a policy, the policyholder must be informed that the car was purchased using bank funds and is pledged.

For registration you will need the following package of documents:

  • application of the established form on company letterhead;
  • vehicle owner's passport;
  • VU of all persons admitted to management;
  • PTS AND STS;
  • upon request: power of attorney and passport of the representative;
  • a receipt confirming the cost of the car;
  • assessment results;
  • legal entity documents;
  • certificates for additional equipment.

After providing all the papers, the insurer carries out an inspection and concludes an agreement with the client. As soon as the payment is transferred to the organization's cash desk, the car owner can receive his own copy of the contract and the policy itself.

What is CASCO?

Unlike compulsory motor liability insurance, which covers the civil liability of the car owner, CASCO is a voluntary financial security in which the object is the car. Compensation under CASCO applies to cases of damage to the vehicle or complete loss of the vehicle.

This policy provides compensation for damage in the following cases:

  • complete loss of transport or partial damage;
  • loss of a car due to theft;
  • compensation for damage to passengers and the driver in case of an accident;
  • compensation for damage to additional equipment.

The choice of certain insured events is possible only with optional damage insurance. The remaining options are included in the policy automatically and are not subject to separate registration.

What to do if payment is refused?

Compensation may be denied for unfounded and unlawful reasons. In the second case, it is worth defending your rights by adhering to the algorithm:

  3. exact deadlines for receiving a response.
  4. If you receive a refusal, contact a lawyer and prepare a statement of claim in court.
  5. Obtain a decision from this competent authority.

CASCO is voluntary vehicle insurance. After concluding an agreement, the car owner does not have to worry about damage from an accident or theft. All risks provided for in the contract will be compensated by the insurance company.

Franchise in CASCO in Moscow

The CASCO franchise in Moscow is one of the few parameters that allows you to significantly save on CASCO in Moscow. But before you start saving and signing a CASCO insurance contract in Moscow, let’s figure out what the savings are and how the size of the deductible will affect payments when an insured event occurs. The CASCO deductible in Moscow is the amount of damage that the owner of the vehicle compensates independently, without attracting funds from the insurance company with which the CASCO agreement in Moscow has been concluded. There are two types of franchise:

  • Conditional
  • Unconditional.

An unconditional CASCO franchise in Moscow is a franchise in which the owner of the vehicle assumes responsibility for compensation in the event of damage.
Example:
The franchise amount is determined to be 20,000 rubles. The amount of damage upon the occurrence of an insured event is determined to be 30,000 rubles. The amount of payment to be reimbursed to the owner of the vehicle will be 10,000 rubles.

A conditional CASCO franchise in Moscow is a franchise under which, upon the occurrence of an insured event, the insurance company compensates the owner of the vehicle for damage only if the amount to be compensated exceeds the barrier amount specified in the contract.
Example:
An insured event occurs, for example, an accident. If the damage is less than the barrier amount defined in the contract by the insurance company, then there will be no compensation from the insurance company. If the damage is greater than the barrier amount determined in the contract by the insurance company, then the insurance company will pay for the damage.
